I posted it as a topic for discussion not to to try putting people off buying them. In my opinion I think they are overpriced. But hats off to BMW as they must make a fortune on them!
A friend of mine worked at local BMW garage for a while. He said that there were loads of warrant issues with Minis. I guess "quality" has improved with the facelift models?

The newer cars are made slightly cheaper so more money in them.

They must have gone glassy-eyed at the options list and ticked nearly every box to get it over 23k though!
Spose it depends how much fruit and veg you "need" on a hot hatch though!
Used to be able to get a s/c one with plenty of kit for 18.5k..............if you need a sunglasses holder trimmed with wolverine fur I spose you can spec it up to 25k though

Ok so not £28k but £26k. You can get 18" alloys that cost £1500, LSD, carbon bucket seats.
Check out the option list on Mercs, they make the mini look small scale!!

Had, IIRC,......
Half leather seats
Aircon
Sunroof
Heated Seats
Heated Washer jets
LSD
MultiFunc Steering Wheel
Autodim Mirror
Chrono pack ( additional instruments like oil temp/press )
Storage Pack
Handling Pack ( N/C )
MP3/WMA CD
Radio Boost
TLC
Think it came to 18200 roughly all in - not missed anything so far. Has been reliable so far being an end of line revised one - only failure was the remote C/lock box - replaced very efficiently under warranty.
Quite thirsty though - does the same as her old 330i

I would say that sounds more like about 20-21 worth of car. So as Mini dont give discounts if you got it for 18 you did damn well
As for the fuel consumption, they are thirsty, but I guess it depends on how they are being driven. But if they are driven the same way the fuel should be a little better than a 330 lol
As for the higher spec cars, Slim, NICE spec car there mate. Guess you got to drive one to appreciate where the money goes, but you certainly feel like your driving a 26-28 grand car when you hop in one of that spec.

All items with * next to them are part of the chilli pack which is about 2k on the S

Definitely about 18200 - the same deal was available to ANYONE as like you say ...no discount. In fact we had to be quick to order one as they only had a certain allocation for the new reg and there were only 2 cars left.
I think the basic s/c S at Sept 05 was around 15180?
Options were roughly
Aircon £600
Sunroof £600
Half leather trim £350
Heated Seats £170
Heated Washer jets/mirrors £40
LSD £100
MultiFunc Steering Wheel £150
Autodim Mirror £80?
Chrono pack ( additional instruments like oil temp/press ) £150ish
Storage Pack £40
Handling Pack ( N/C )
MP3/WMA CD £200
Radio Boost £150
TLC £150
Computer £100
Didn't order the Chilli pack as the Xenons seemed a bit fragile and didn't want the 17" wheels as the one we tested on 17s rode like on bricks on the roads round here. Funnily enough, our friends who had a 6 month newer car got a 2nd hand set of 16s after trying ours on 16s and kept his S-spokes for resale.
I don't think she has missed anything we didn't order
Don't shoot me on the option prices but it definitely came to £18200ish all in from new..no discount - I'll get the exact option prices later. Think they threw in floor mats, full tank...the usual you get on any new car.
I guess you could order loads more stuff but she's happy with the 170bhp and it does what she wants
As for the fuel, consumption, my wife does the same trip now as she did with the 330i and the consumption is basically the same as the E46 330i manual. That's brim to brim calculations ( I fill it up for her at the weekend as she usually has the kids with her ) not based on the computer

I'll take a butchers at the bill when i get home - think it has cruise control as well ( not sure why she ordered that though! ) - all the option prices are listed individually - it's still possible to get a decent amount of kit for well under 20k though imo.

Yeah for sure mate, base model is now about 16k so with a budget of 4k, you can indeed put some tidy little things on there.
The missus favours the following options.
Chilli pack
Full leather
18's
With those, she is always happy with what she brings home lol

Our mini cooper cost £12500 in Sept 2001, still going strong 6 years later with 107K on the clock. Yellow/White CD Boost, AirCon, Pepper Pack.
What's it worth Fair/Trade?
A year ago wifey was offered £6500 TRADE @ 95K miles
Awesome residuals for a small car but mind you, it still drives very well and few shake/rattle/rolls - if any..

The best bit for me is the sat nav gets rid of the centre speedo which i dont really like to be honest.

Misses tends to use the electronic speed display rather than paying attention to the centre one.
