Si, gutted that you're not gonna be able to make it mate but rest assured that if it's half as good as it promises to be then this will be just the first of many trips over there.

Right, change of dates to enable Scott to be able to come.
We will be leaving on the evening of Friday 23rd May, thereby taking in the w/c 26th (Spring bank hol Monday)
I hope this is okay with everyone, as it also covers school half-term in most areas.

...and?
For me it's a no brainer. SSO is a mildly entertaining Sunday out, but after about 3 mins of seeing stuff go down the strip it gets a bit yawn-inducing.
I'm prepared to risk the chance of missing it, given the bigger picture.

Only right to move the date. Getting such good friends in on the trip is a very worthwhile effort...
I'd agree that missing the SSO or any single event is a non-brainer. One Sunday for a few hours or one week driving in the Alps with your best friends.....?
End of May gives us seven months to save... if Money is an issue and you'd like to put some aside each month to see if that helps.. then let me or Si know and we'll keep it safe and sound in the WYIOC account...

TBH.. The Stelvio trip will be the biggest driving thing we've ever undertaken...
Do we know if this clashes? If it doesn't, then we'll no doubt be along to support...
You not coming on the trip? I thought this would have been right up your street...!!

Alan , you know i'd go tommorrow but with ever increasing cost and the fact i cannot justify spending a mint on a driving trip ......

Just wanted you to know the the SSO was on that date .....
but if you would sooner drive abroad the fair enough and have a good en

Tell me about the cost..
I was test driving a Westfield today looking at the reduced costs in petrol . I use the car for work and get through a fair few £ in petrol...
Twas a Diesel Westie... great fun, but an Odd drive being DTI... still, does 60 MPG so would save me near £200 pm in juice...
Stelvio will be expensive, but a once in a lifetime trip with the club... Definitely missing SSO and all the other top 5 for...

It IS a better idea. I just can't afford to loose the 4 doors. This would have been alongside the Scoob... for those different fun days....
But it didn't do it for me.. it was an Old 93 Escort DTI and it didn't have any... real GO.... shame as the handling and open top fun factor were 10/10...

I posted the same feelings about SSO vs Stelvio but deleted it in case I upset anyone. Drag racing is boring (IMHO) unless you're competing, which of course, James and Paul are. A week long road-trip around some wonderful scenery and awe-inspiring roads beats watching a days worth of traffic-light starts (probably in the rain) anyday. It's the same with Blyton, every year we get people who don't come so they can go park in a field and look at ch@v'd Coarsers or take the wife to Ikea Each to their own I suppose.
I'm still mulling over whether I can do this trip, and probably won't be able to commit until very late whereby I'll arrange my own travel and accommodation if I go. If not, have a great time everyone

Jilly... You'll be very welcome to join us...
To save you reading Stickies ramblings (the rest of us write proper like) I'll quickly summarise what you need to know here..
Where? The trip will be a full on driving trip to the Stelvio pass and various fabulous roads in the Alps... We'll be taking in tunnels, passes and the best driving roads in the World. We'll be having a few trips to North Italy to hopefully get into the Ferrari, Zonda and Lambo factory tours...
When? Last week in May 08 during the schools hols. We'll be traveling from here to there on Friday night(ish) on the Dover - Dunkerque Ferry and driving straight through Saturday to get to our first Hotel / B&B on the Saturday... Few beers on the night and straight into a 300 mile Sunday. The trip will last the week, coming back Thurs or Friday.
How? We'll be having a few trip meets over the coming months to discuss the trip and collect money if you wish to use the club as a savings account... We'll be looking for some deposits to secure the ferry costs now as the further away we book, the cheaper it'll be and it'll focus the attention of those deciding to go, because people do pull out at the last minute when they realise the time needed and costs....
Costs? Well... I'd probably say upward of 1k-1,500k. This will be;
Petrol (10 tanks there and back?) £500
Ferry & Insurance.. £100.
Accommodation £20 pppp = £120 (each)
Food & Beer per night. Another £20 = £160
Provisions. Lunch, snacks on the Ferry, whilst there and back etc. Another £20 per day = £160
Add 10% for miscalculation £110
Total... £1,150. Round it to £1,500 so you can really enjoy it...
So, quite expensive, but as Jeremy says (Check out last weeks Top Gear).. why stay in Centre Parcs when you can have this!!

We need to arrange the meeting for next weekend . . . is everyone okay with The Trading Post at Castleford, 3pm on Sunday 4th?
We'll be taking a £50 deposit from everyone who is wanting to go so we can book the ferry crossings.
