I thought a lot of you guys plaued golf quite often, and there seems to be a lot of 20+ h/c's out there.
What sort of score are you guessing the winner to have? If we are looking at a score of 32-38 then I will be playing off of 15.

To be honest, Tiny you should be off 16 - its about time you got used to scoring 30 something points, rather than 40 something!

Also, you should all be off 3/4 handicaps for stapleford, especially off the lady yellow tee's and using winter rules

So that would make tiny - 16 handicap x 3/4 = 12 handicapper for the competition

Stroked index 1 - 12 big boy! Welcome to the real world of golf

Unfortunately I am having to move out of my house that weekend so I wont be able to come and represent the Hertfordshire boys, and beat tiny on his own turf

Have a good game boys, and dont forget....If your ball goes in a little brook, Tiny has this wonderful gadget that gets the ***** out for you. Failing that, he is always willing to jump in and get it for you!

Matt

Stapleford scoring is quite easy once you get the hang of it.
The holes are Strike Indexed in order of difficulty, SI 1 = hardest hole, SI 18 = easiest hole.

If your handicap is 18, you get 1 shot over par on all the holes, if you shoot a 4 on a par 4, then you score a net birdie (as it was a par 5). If you score a 3 on a par 4 it is a net eagle.

The scores are as follows:
Net Bogey = 1 point
Net Par = 2 points
Net Birdie = 3 points
Net Eagle = 4 points (I guess Tiny gets a few of these)
Net Albatros = 5 points (Never seen one of these yet)

If you handicap is less than 18, then you only get a shot on the numbered holes up to your handicap. I play off of 15 normally so I get a shot on holes from 1-15, but no shots on 16, 17 and 18 (SI numbers).

If like Tiny you play off of 20 then you get a shot on all 18 holes and 2 shots on holes SI 1 & 2 (makes them a par 6 for a par 4!).
If you play off of 28, then you get 2 shots on holes 1-10 and then 1 shot on the rest.

Hope this makes sense, it is easier to explain on the course.

I play in society in Spain every year, where if you score over 30 points you lose a shot, and if you win with over 30 you lose 2 shots off your handicap.
It helps the higher handicaps who play off of 28 who don't play very often and struggle to get to 30+ points.

I don't like the system too much as I always have 1 good round a year and get hammered for it, and I play off of 7 out there! Still manage about 26-28 points though.

even with 28 i'll still only score about 10 points max

If you have a one off good day and score over 40, that is considered well done, if you score 38-40+ every round you need 4 shots off your h/c, unless everyone is doing the same
If 40 is the benchmark for Saturday, I will play off of 20 too.......been a while since I have had the chance to score highly.

I take it is all still on for Saturday?

Fond memories indeed!

or in Tiny's case, POND memories!

Once the house is all sorted and I have somewhere to live, I will have to organise you guys coming down to the Herts again.

Winter is here in abundance now, yesterday was dire! I dont normally walk off the course but after 9 holes of strong winds, horizontal rain and remnants of a hangover I had had enough. So sat in the bar and watched the football and drank more beer!

Need to get your winter golf gear together now, no more short sleeve shirts!
