I know someone who has one and believe me it would be no contest. Like i said previously, mine has 380bhp and would get murdered in every aspect be it track, fast open A road, tight twisty B road. Wouldnt make a difference

I'd say a moddeed sti 8 (330+ bhp) would give a 911 turbo a run for it's money up to around 100mph, and around bends and braking etc. You would never get past one but would still be with him/her
Dont forget the 911 weighs in at nearly 2 ton

996 Turbo is a nice car, but a modified Subaru or Mitsubishi can be quicker and more competent on some roads. For example, a 340 BHP classic can match its power to weight ratio and quarter mile time. The same car with brakes and suspension mods can be extremely competent on a bumpy B-road where the Porsche nose can bob and its tail land heavily over yumps. A stock STI PPP does a similar time on Evo's test track to a stock 996 turbo doesn't it?
Same with the M3s, people used to think they were missiles and a Subaru would never match them. Yet the aforementioned 340 BHP classic pulled out and passed mine at high speed in a straight line, yet everyone says German stuff just pulls away at high speed.
Racing threads are a bit boring, and I've grown out of silly behaviour on the road, but still like performance

its very steady on the road. the brakes new disks all round cause the old
ones where on it from new i would say now the pads are ferodo and i have no probs braking from that speed. i love it its good fun"
So Ernie, where did you do 173mph exactly ?

...totally agree! - you want to see how fast you really are, do a track day.
Nothing like a bit of lift-off snap oversteer to help focus the mind on how quickly a scoob will let go when you get it wrong.

I think your all being unfair, at the end of the day the 911 driver might be really bad and cant drive, or is too scared to drive his car properly and ernie might be a very good driver...
Both the cars are far far better and beyond the average persons driving skill. It don't take much to make a mistake, take a turn wrong, miss a gear... blah blah..
My personal fav is whenever I do actaully get someone having a go I have to let them past due to the petrol light...
I totally agree if your going to race do it on a track... but don't mean a Scooby can't be faster than a 911 dependant upon the circumstances...
I have overtaken a Ducati on a CB500 simply becasue the Ducati rider wasnt prepared to take his bike as far as I was the CB500. Everyday of the week the ducati is faster and better in everyway... but with that guy riding it on that day my CB was faster....

I think both drivers got lucky. Racing like a ******* on crap country roads.. Wise boys.
Knew the road my ****, you knew where the tarmac was the last time you drove over it. Unless you have a sixth sense which I doubt you have you couldn't tell if there was a tractor stopped round the next corner or kids on bikes. Maybe I've just seen too many young people round here in pine boxes before their time.

HI ALL IS THIS SITE JUST MADE FOR TAKING THE ****
I AM VERY DISAPOINTED WITH SOME OF YOU
I COULD NAME YOU BUT WHATS THE POINT
YOU WOULD RATHER SIT AT THE COMPUTER
THAN A GOOD RACE AWAY UP THE BACK ROADS
WHERE THERE ARE NO KIDS ON BIKES YOU WOULD
BE LUCKY TO SEE A BIRD WITH WINGS.

Although the thread is puerile, it is perfectly feasible that a Scoob may compete well against a Porsche in much less controlled situations, as in, 2 totally different drivers, an unpredictable and possibly unknown road and surface, and unknown capabilities of the vehicles concerned. There are Corsa's out there which hand Scoobs their @$$, so why can't a Scoob do the same to a Porker if one or more of the many variables is in its favour ?

depends which version of 911 he messed with TBH, some go faster than others, its a bit like saying a early standard UK Turbo with 208 BHP is the same as a RB320 after all they both have turbo`s and there both called Impreza`s, but that`s where the similarities basically end, he could have come up against the crappiest and slowest 911 ever to roll off of the production line, but hey at the end of the day it`s still a 911

In my opinion......no chance!!
A mate of a mate has a 2002 911 Turbo and when we were out in my 336bhp 05 Sti, we saw said 911 in the distance.
Anyway....we caught him up, came off a roundabout ready to go and........he was offski!! I didn't even bother chasing him.....I could see he'd have just romped away.
I agree that a well driven Impreza will probably keep up with most cars down a B-road, but general day-to-day, the 911 Turbo would wipe it's **** with the Impreza. The new one....40 to 60 in second gear....1 second or so. That is pretty quick by anyone's standards.
As for "racing" on public roads There's a time and a place for using the performance of your car, and although I agree you can often do this in relative safety on quiet roads, "racing" tends to pull you in and can force you into errors you possibly wouldn't make if you were having a spirited run on your own. Don't get me wrong, I've "had a go" with plenty cars over the years, but as I've grown older and *ahem* wiser, I tend to ease off far earlier and don't even bother chasing anyone that drives like a nutter.
A quick bit of fun on an open road occasionally, but.....racing belongs on a track.

But the OP hasnt mentioned the important specs - did they get their ***** out afterwards and compare lengths ? and did they get their bank statements out to see who was richest ?
I really dont see the point of these 'my car beat an X Y or Z' that always come up on car forums - it could be true, or could be BS ( for example, my Impreza was 'beaten' by a 1.0 Corsa full of chavs - purely because they were doing 50+ in a 30 zone, and I value my license a bit more than driving like a prat ) - but as there is never any proof, who cares ?
Unless it is on a track or drag strip with witnesses and proper timing gear, then its all pretty irrelevant.
