Are you just trolling?
"You get what you pay for" is reserved strictly for social climbing wannabees who like everyone to know what they spend.
£500 surf holiday in SW France/Portugal (or ski holiday or hiking tour, or MTB tour, etc, etc) or £5000++ full board atmosphereless cheese fest hotel full of middle aged bores in Barbados where you have to dress up for each meal?
A real tough one.

The last holiday we had was popping up to Montreal for the F1 in June. Probably all in about CAD$1500, if that. I'd need to find the tickets and B&B info to confirm it, and to me, if I've got to go and dig around for the info then it's a good thing as I'm not worrying about the cost
We've done the Montreal thing for the past three years. Last year we did a fair bit of camping up north (Killbear and Awenda), again, no real idea of the cost, doubt it was more than $50 a night, if that. I'm not really a camping type of person but I did enjoy myself, so that counts as a good holiday.
Only other holiday we've had this year is a long weekend away on the boat over at the Toronto Island, probably $100 all in, which includes fuel, food, and $20 per night docking fee (first night free due to reciprocal club rights). Again, another pleasant little getaway.

As others have said do what you enjoy doing.
If the most enjoyment you could possibly have is a week at Skegness then even if you are a lottery jackpot winner spending £50k on a round the world cruise isn't going to make you happy.
Do what is going to give you the most enjoyment.
You get what you pay for certainly doesn't apply to holidays IMO or experience.
Cheers

I get what I pay for, and its GREAT ......
Its people who go to Butlins that use the old "you don't get what you pay for spending £5K on a holiday".....
The truth is you DO!!! Its fantastic, and you'll never know what you're missing

It's a case of try everthing but you soon learn what you enjoy most.
My parents are trying to get my wife and I on a cruise, they want to do the Caribbean which we would hate. I've told them we'll do the Alaskan cruise which my wife and I would love.
To be honest I'd chill more with some surf, some beer and some mates.
Cheers

I take it those are typical sorts of 'domestic' holidays in Canada? Are those the sorts of things that Canadians will do and foreign tourists do not?
My first thought when thinking of Canadian holidays is whale watching, bear watching, glacier watching, Niagara Falls - that sort of thing. Is that stuff just for the foreign tourists? Have you done stuff like that? Are you not interested?
Would love to see for myself of course, but there is only so much that can be fit into two weeks.

Mad and the wife always swore we would never go back to the same place twice, last year we went to the island of meeru in the maldives for our honeymoon, knew we would go there again and have just got back from another 2 weeks of heaven!
Clear warm blue sea, full of great fish and corals, soft white sand, fantastic staff and food, will be hard not to book again for next year. If relaxing in peace and quite is your thing then look no further.
Both holidays have cost us about £1300 each fully inclusive, so about £2600 in total which for what you get to me is a bloody bargain.
For more info checkout Meeru Island Resort - Meerufenfushi - Unofficial meeru discussion forum, it has a independant forum (bit like this without the scooby connection!)
Plus whoever mentioned the golf courses in the maldives obvioulsy has never been, these are small individual islands, not big holdiay resorts!!!
