But living here permenantly is a whole different kettle of fish. I would never talk anyone out of moving here but I would suggest you do some serious research into the place before you commit to emigrating here.

with all due respect asif there's millions who have come here from some crap places and doing well out of my country including your forefathers, now this place is heading towards being crap for some natives what are the options?
pc or not this is the feeling for millions of natives fact. i dont want to turn this into a political row i just say it how it is. They clearly dont put up with half the crap we pc soft as crap nation puts up with and that is clear!

If you moved to say, Germany, in later life, would you learn the language?
If you intended to move there in 10 years time, would you start to visit there more often, start to make some German friends, perhaps buy a place now and rent it out?
How serious are you about moving to somewhere else and what would you do about it? That is what I'm asking.
As a slightly jokey question how would you feel if the Germans started complaining about excessive numbers of Brits moving over there? Would be ironic, don't you think so?
I myself have no intention of staying in this country, long term. I am not 100% happy about the direction it is taking, the cost of living, and the amount of money I have to pay to other people for them to sit around and do nothing.
I only have this life and I intend to make the most of it. Working just to be able to live in West London is not my idea of fun for the rest of my life.
My problem is I do not know where I want to go. (Useful suggestions only please!)

All around continental Europe is fantastic, you only needed to watch top gear to see that . As pointed out though it is just something different, try 50% tax for a start, having to recycle everything (actually a pain in the proverbial when you're a lazy sod), plenty of bicycles and I know how much scoobynet loves those.
One of the things that stands out is the complete absence of chavs, gangs of unruly teenagers or intimidation from pretty much anyone, bums included. People are respectful and well mannered, which goes a long way in making a country more pleasurable.

Travel is the key, you're right, but I agree with another poster who said that a holiday is completely different than living somewhere and therefore not a safe way to make that sort of a decision.
Another way is to see what other Brits are doing and what they say/do. Thats why everyone talks about Oz, NZ, Canada etc.
I know a family friend who has just up sticks and gone to Canada. Mid forties, almost grown up kids, mortgage here paid, house here sold. He will be looking for a much bigger house, as a cash buyer, still with 6 figures left in the bank from selling his place over here.
That sort of scenario will have a lot of appeal to many.
Let me know how you get on in Bangladesh!

Gatty Southern Germany - esp Munich is a very very good place to live. You dont have to speak German - Most people speak English. Learning the lingo obviously helps you integrate more.
As my buddy Wurzel has hinted at - there are downsides to being over here. Yes the Grass is definately greener - but go into it with yours eyes open.
If you you want to know the pros and most importantly the cons PM me.
I spend my time time between Britain and Germany so have a good idea of the differences.
