Anyone want to see my Astra "sports" seats? They have leather bits on them and lumbar support adjust you know.

Neil - LOL!
I'm not insulting the SN forum with pictures of my Astra seats.
Strangely though, they are much more supportive and comfy (3 hour trips - no backache or problems) than the much flashier "Konigs" in my old R32.
Still not showing then them though - they really do look quite dull.

I test drove a RS4 when I was looking at ordering the new V8 M3.
I had read so much about them and really liked the looks and I could save over £10k by buying a used RS4 instead of a new M3 and I recon that the depreciation has levelled out on them as well.
I was really let down, the pedals where in the wrong position, it was like you where having to stand on them to make them work which after 1/2 hour made your legs hurt.
The engine seemed to red line really quickly like you put your foot down and 2 secs later it was hitting the rev limiter.
The switch gear seemed cheap for a car costing new £55k.
Didn't like the daft flat bottom steering wheel.
With the driving seat in my driving position there was about 3" leg room for the rear passenger.
Coming from a rear wheel drive car the whole handling thing just felt too safe, hardly any feedback at all and after 35mins I had had enough and took the car back to the dealers.
I was really dissapointed with the car. Driving the V8 M3 is in a differant league. I would say it's quicker and alot better driving experiance.
Like I said I wanted to really like the car but it just left me cold.

excellent job pippyrips, totally agree. im in the fortunate position of direct comparison as ive got a uk sti9 (or 05 sti for the pedantic) with prodrive pack and springs and my old mans got an 07 rs4 avant. i guarantee you will never get bored of pushing down the starter button and hearing the v8 rumble into life. the torque on it is tremendous,6th gear will happily pul from 40 to 150+. apparently. fuel consumption is definetly better than the sti,the brakes are tremendous and i think the suspension is one of the most finely judged ive driven, not much body roll but never harsh or bouncy even over some very broken single track road at an indecent rate. its not as raw as the sti , but every bit as enjoyable and probably more practical- though rear legroom is a bit tight to put it mildly! servicing is variable, a year or 15-18000 miles and about 200ish for first service. got to say i would have one if i could afford it,thankfully i just wait till the codgers not looking
tell!
tell!
I own a 05 STI PPP - Spring etc.
Old man 06 RS4 Saloon.
Would easily prefer owning his rather than mine. Just such a nice car. I drive it every now and then. Make mine feel **** afterwards

That's the best comparison yet! It covers all the generic aspects pertaining to ownership. I have to agree with this tester - what is the importance in all this tail out stuff on a public road in a car costing +£50k of your own money.
RS4 ticks more boxes than all the others IMHO!!! It's also the best built and certainly better looking than the M3 by a long chalk. Merc is nice too though.

DO NOT TOUCH A AUDI OR A VW.
These are junk, they are ok if you want constan problems with them & and are chucked together.
After speaking to a good friend of mine who is a audi/vw mechanic he says they are a nightmare to work & are as not as good as they maKE OUT.
If it is reliability you want needs to be jap not that german rubbish.

I have disconnected the active valves in the exhaust. This means you hear the V8 all the time instead of some of the time. It also improved engine response and economy at the same time – all for 5 minutes work!

I'd just like to echo some of the other comments on here about the build quality - I'm in the fortunate position of having both a 350bhp modded scoob and a 2006 RS4 in my garage at the moment, and the difference in build quality and class is astounding - the Audi is simply in a different league.
It also feels more effortlessly quick than the scoob, and the 8-pot Lambo offshoot brakes are stronger than the AP 6-pots I installed on the scoob as well.
The only aspect for me in which the scooby aces the audi is steering feel. I think even a standard scoob would beat it, but mine is especially sensitive since I fitted lower springs, anit-lift kit and SpecC steering rack.
They're both great cars - but at the end of the day I'm gonna have to get rid of one eventually and I know which one it'll be.
Oh - one other thing - Audi owners don't seem to wave - losers !!
cheers
