my 1999 2000turbo hunts from 600rpm to 1000rpm, for about 10 seconds after a long run, then settles back down to 600rpm tickover. it doesnt do it everytime. also, i get a split second engine cutting out when i get to about 4 - 4,500 rpm, when goin thru the gears. its cuts out, then gets goin again.. been told its the MAF sensor. goin to take it out and clean it up as i have an induction kit on, and see what it does then...

Anyone know the closest Subaru Parts dealer to Warrington? Used to be one in Northwich but not sure its still there or not.

Thanks

Adam

Have you tried Monks Heath near Macclesfield?

No mate, not tried there.

Ive decided to leave the car at home next week until i get a new MAF sorted out.

At the end of the day - if it turns out to NOT be the MAF sensor then at least ive got piece of mind that its not that thats at fault and ive got a brand new working maf out of it.

Im confident the cars still gonna run ok as ive driven it off boost yesterday and it still runs sweet as the day i bought it - so hopefully its not damaged anything.

Upon replacing the sensor will the ECU just learn to refuel accordingly or do you need to reset the ECU?

Hi guys, ordered a new MAF on Monday so im just waiting for it to turn up.

I just want to check though - am i right in thinking the MAF sensor is in the airbox?

Do you need to remove the panel filter or anything like that to get to it?

Is there a guide to replacing this part anywhere so that i can crack on with the job when it gets delivered?

Thanks

Adam

Yes,
As I said in post 22, just remove the plug and undo the two screws. Easy

Amazing! I changed my battery yesterday and now have exactly the same symtoms! This is obviously a common fault. As I have no Subaru Dealers anywhere near me (Salisbury in wiltshire) are MAF sensors available from anyone via mail order?

Salisbury.....Your nearest dealer is in Swindon called Simpsons phone number is 01793 767000/1 (Parts Dept). I have purchased mail order from them and they are very quick and the item came well packaged. Think the Maf is about £90+PP.

Evening all, MAF sensor arrived today - just fitted it and its fixed the problem, its even improved the driveability of the car ( although that could just be in my head seeing how the cars working again! ).

Thanks for all the accurate advice chaps, appreciate it - you think Subaru would have done something to rectify this rather major flaw in its cars.

Car runs sweet again - well pleased.

Excellent, glad it arrived quickly, what with all the postal strikes lately.

It's not just Subaru that has this problem so don't worry.

brill, glad it is fixed

include the ecu reset as part of routine maintenance.. then you know when to replace the maf sensor
