Bitten Hero,

A minor point - Phase 1 engines will suffer from piston on no.4 cylinder, not no. 3..

Compucolin - This is very unlikely to have been caused by any fuel problems.

If you could post a picture of your knackered piston it would be easier to determine what caused it. A broken ring land is most likely to be caused by detonation, or piston failure because the car has been boosted too high.

If the piston crown has gone (melted) then look at the fuel and ignition systems / knock sensors because the combustion chamber temps have got way out of range.

Excessively high EGTs could have also caused failure of the turbo. Alternatively the turbo could have failed, caused oil to be added to the inducted, which in turn increased susceptability to det, which in turn caused the piston to fail.

This isn't to be expected in a standard car that hasn't been abused. Are you the first owner?.

Either way a RR fueling check might be a good idea.

Cheers,

Alex
