I think if anything does kick off, I really can't see us getting involved. And if we did it would probably mean the end of Labour in power - not that I care much for any of power merchants.

As a populace, we didn't really have the stomach for Iraq and we gave them the benefit of the doubt and got made to look like US lapdogs.

Perhaps the US populace can be convinced that Iran wants to "Kill us all" but I suspect the UK government will find themselves very alone if they commit our forces too.

Plus it will bring Russia and China closer together as allies if they see the west as a threatening force - which it appears to be right now.

I've mentioned this before. mainly on the 9/11 threads regarding the real reason for invading Iraq. OIL.
It's the same reason why America will invade Iran. Iran has Oil fields that America wants. It's written into the American constitution, that America can go to war with any nation it feels threatened by. That does not just mean weapons. It means commodities, like Oil for instance.
It will only be a matter of time before America invades Iran. It will come down to 2 things.
1) To stop Iran developing Nuclear weapons (just like Iraq had WMD)
2) Iran terrorists blow something up in America (See 9/11)

2 weeks before 9/11 a report came out in America saying the only way America could go to war with Afghanistan/Iraq was if there was another Pearl Harbour. They didn't have to wait long did they.

i think you gota see it from irans point of view. if i was from iran i would probably feel that if other nations are allowed nukes then why should iran not be allowed. And why should the USA be allowed to bully other countries into not having nukes. I am not surprised many eastern countries dispise the USA and it's allies, not surprised at all.

In an ideal world no country would have nuclear - they are pure evil.

What you say is perfectly logical. However, can you ever see those countries who have nuclear weapons giving them up? All those ex CND marchers in this scuzzy lot running us want to keep them now for the stronger voice it gives them in world affairs. Not slow to attack a militarily weak country either are they!

On the other hand, could you trust that chap not to slip a "bucket of sunshine" on top of Israel if he saw his way clear, and what would that do with respect to WW3?

Well you are perfectly right. Of course no country is going to give up nuclear weapons. As you say, countries want to keep them so they can retain the high ground in world affairs. And as far as slipping "buckets of sunshine" on to Israel, again, of course, there is no way to trust that that would never happen.

As i said, in an ideal world no country would have these terrible weapons but unfortunately that will probably never happen. It is far too late for that as countries like the USA are desperate to get their hands on oil from countries like Iran and it seems like the only way possible is to bully it out of them.

And as for WW3, it's probably inevitable isn't it

Wouldn't it be great if the whole world got along and we could invest are time and efforts in discovering new fuels, medicines, exploration, etc. for the good of all mankind. Here's to wishfull thinking

M - knowing this should maybe make you consider de-religiousising (did I just invent a new word there) international political affairs? Its all about power, borders and control (ohh and mabe some economics if I am putting it all in a nutshell!). The 'Umma' (global muslim brotherhood) concept only works when it suits power broking individuals.
