IIRC it means the liner sits over the top to reduce the chance of it dropping.

Do you think getting it sent as a gift would wash with HMC..?

Interesting that (as Graham says) the stage 4.5+ motors don't seem to have squirters..!?
I am not expert on this by any stretch but I would have thought that was because they are still semi open deck blocks, as far as I know they are only present on closed deck blocks (like the 2.35 axis offer for example).

Also is it the rev limit on the 2.35 is 8500rpm but the 2.5 is said to be ok to 9000rpm?

I thought the main bonus of the 2.35 was that it would rev higher, again this may be wrong.

Duty on turbos is 2.2% so if the blocks are the same then its...

$2450 block
$350 shipping
$500 gaskets and bolts

Total of 3300 USD = £1587

1587 + 2.2% = 1622 + VAT

= £1905 delivered for the stage 2

or £2916 for the stage 3

Only 2.2%? That makes the USA thing a lot of sense and the top hat conversion a deal too.
Thanks for the info.

thats the question i asked in general,im just worried about duty/vat and customs charges,if goin to the expense of rebuilding my engine then might as well do it properly and those prices are very tempting, might pm playsatan or scoobyslammed as i know ron @axis did their 2.35 engines to see what additional costs there were

Aweek or so ago I emailed Ron.
He quoted me for the S2 engine short block, 350$ for shipping.

Now we know 2.2% for duty and Mr Brown's cut on all of it.

Good deal, and you might as well get the studs/gaskets and oil pump from them too.

It is also worth checking out where I got this engine from RalliSpec Ltd. Their stage 2 2.5 is equivalent to the AXIS Stage 3, but comes in a bit cheaper, he gave me a trade discount so this worked out to about £2200 all in delivered!!!

I've just ordered a new EJ257 bare block assembly from them, it only cost $810!!

Dont rely on that 2.2% figure I gave for turbos is the same for blocks, BUT I would have thought it likely as they are both mechanical parts. You would need to phone customs and excise to confirm this.

The axis stage 3 has a modified crank where as the RalliSpec has selected factory ones. This may be why the price is slightly diffferent

The RalliSpec stage 1 is $100 cheaper than Axis tho

This must have changed recently, the Rallispec stage 2, used to be modified Crank (was when I purchased) The duty Rate on the blocks was 2.7%.

If you want it done I know they can do it, If you want a stage one with ACL's they also do that.

Seems like along time ago but yes, I went down this route last year.

You can always do what I did and ask Ron to declare the value of the parts alone. Not like you can export labour now is it? Takes a big chunk out of the duty.

Think I still have a list of costs somewhere but these may have changed what with the price of steel and the currency fluctuations.
