What is the real registration number? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but any seven character UK reg numbers are in the format ABC123A (1963 - approx 1984), A123ABC (approx 1984 - approx 2001), AA02AAA (2001 - present).

I can't see any pattern that 134DBOY fits.

What's wrong with having a 555 plate on an Impreza? Better than on an Evo

Its a personal choice - mine has my initials as well and to be honest I couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks as long as I like it.

When people actually put the word at the bottom of the plate as the fonts/spacing/screws are so bad you can't work it out - that is sad

Sorry you are right. I was trying to remember exactly what form it took, it has been a while since I saw it.

On reflection it must have been BAD 130Y. One of the 'B's was 13.

Sorry!

Private/personalised no. plates - 1 word : 'TOSSERS' ...
Absoloutly no point in them - why would you 'not' want someone to know how old yer car is ??? if you've got a complex about it - go and buy a new car !
The **** i had to go through cos the tosser who owned my car before me sold the car with a private plate (that i didnt really want & was gonna sell on anyway!) - and then when i try to tax my car the DVLA says the previous owner hasnt sent the reg docs and that he was insisting he still owned the car ... and all because he wanted his private no. back !!! After a thousand (unhelpful) calls to DVLA and a visit to the local police - finally got it sorted ! I have now relinquished the plate - so nobody can ever have this number again !! and good f**kin riddance - 1 less tosser plate on the roads !

I really can't see why there should be any fuss at all about having a personalised number plate! What possible harm can it do?

I saw one today on an FTO - N16 E**... He had it spaced so to look like NIGE
**.
His indicators didnt work either.
I took one look at the plate and knew immediately that under the drivers baseball cap was a *******.

We have one on retention (two letters/two numbers), my wifes father gave it her to put on her Fiat 500 a few years back, the 500 is long gone but the plate just sits on retention as we cant bring ourselves to put it on our cars, I suppose we could sell it as he has said its up to her but we dont seem to get round to it.

I like the UR02 SLO one but feel if I had it I would end up crashing it and having it spread across the paper or live to regret it when it is read out in court during my speeding trial !

Opinions are like ****holes - everyone has one

Just because you don't agree with them there's no need to call everyone a tosser who has one - its got f all to do with the age of the car its just another mod for your car

That happened to me, or at least the plate in question was mentioned as though it was a contributing factor in my speeding. A good solicitor managed to convince them that it never actually did increase my speed as it wasn't connected to the accelerator pedal, but fixed on the outside of my car, front and back.

Cant see anything wrong with them as long as you dont alter spacing and fit dodgy coloured bolts.

A bit of personalising same as any other non performance mod like wheels, stickers, lights, paint etc.

Have this on my Jeep.

MO57 GAY (MOST GAY) was on ebay a while back.

Found it while looking for a 57 plate for my Dad.

Got him SH57 SMH, his initials, he wasn't to keen on the Gay plate.

Cheers

Found this and assume its the actual legislation

Number plates fitted after 1st Sept 2001
All number plates fitted to vehicles after this date must display characters that meet the dimensions shown below.

Characters:
Height 79mm
Width ( except for the figure 1 of letter I ) 50mm
Stroke 14mm
Space between characters 11mm
Space between groups 33mm
Top, bottom and side margins ( minimum ) 11mm
Space between vertical lines 19mm

Its the groups one I dont get.
I know "its the law" but 11mm between characters is enough to be able to define each character, but why the split into groups?

I disagree I can afford a 'good' plate and I'm 'bitching' because I think they're poor for the reasons I outlined earlier. The stench of cheap merlot, stella and banality.........
