I recommend you attempt to find a compromise.

I had 2 cars for a few weeks earlier this year. I have an allocated space, which I park the scoob in, and left the second car in a communual parking space.

The tax on the second car ran out, but it was on private property, so that shouldn't be a problem. It was obviously not abandoned, being in newer and better condition than most of the other cars nearby.

The first thing that happened was one of the door mirrors was smashed off. Smashed off with such force that the entire mirror assembly, including the internal parts, would need to be replaced.

The next thing was it had a notice from the council saying my "abandoned" car would be removed in 7 days if I didn't remove it. The car was registered to the address next to where it was parked, so if Tescos can find out who it belongs to (for parking fines), then the council should be able to.

I had to arrange for it to be trailered to a friends house sharpish. Apparently, once this busybody had reported it as abandoned, only she could get the disposal order cancelled. Even if I'd got it taxed, it could still be towed away and crushed.

My brother has had numerous parking disputes with his neighbours over the years, which has resulted in numerous acts of vandalism against his cars and his garage door.

It really isn't worth it. Try and find somewhere else to temporarily park your car until at least one of the others is sold.

As for his agitated state, for all you know it was his wife who had nagged him into knocking on your door, and his attitude was more to do with being henpecked than actually being annoyed at your parking...

My next door neighbour has space for 3 cars (at a push) on his drive, and he has a double garage at the rear of the house

I have the same drive (I can only fit 2 cars on my drive, as I have a grassed area) and same double garage at the rear

Now he pretty much always parks slightly across my drive, sometimes making it a little bit awkward for me to park my car, but I never say anything as he has his reasons for parking like this (usually to get his 2 other cars on the drive)

I dont mind as he sorts my cars out MOT time (runs his own garage) I just give him the keys and he sorts everything out, he loans me his van on occasion, and recently took my car in to check it out, and do some tyre changes for me and some other bits and bobs, and he wouldnt take any money, so I bought him a bottle of Scotch as a thanks

Usually he moves at least one of the cars into the garage later in the evenings, so I know I will always have space to move in and out my own drive

When I have had two cars on my drive, he will always move his car if needed or asked without question

I like to keep it that way as we all get on, now the neighbours the other side annoy me as their visitors park across my car, so when they pull up and get out the car, I go out and sit in mine so they get the message and move

2 - pi$$sing of a possibly irritating neighbour?
3 - coming to a peaceful resolution so all parties are happy, satisfied, or at least can live with, the outcome.

You have to live with (well, very near) these people at the end of the day. All X many thousand of us here on the internet may be 100% on your side but we all live elsewhere.

To the OP, please try to not let this disintegrate into a slanging match with your neighbours. It reads like the guy was wound up about the situation as he found it and you just happened to be identifiable. I also take it you don't speak/converse with the neighbours very often. Or you may have reacted with more concern rather than immediately getting your hackles up.

Please try to chill out, find karma and meditate.

Living on a new estate myself i know that parking issures are only going to get worse as the years go by.Newer estates have narrower roads with less parking opportunities - couple this with the fact that households now often have 2+ cars now it can be a b@stard sometimes.

Due to the above i'm experiencing problems as well.The thing that REALLY ****s me off is that when we were buying our house we made provisions for parking and this was high up on the priority list for us - it had to have a double garage or a single garage with a double driveway.That way both our cars were off the road,don't know why we bothered as other people don't - we regularly get people parking right on corners,other people have double garages which they don't use - one actually has a double garage,large drive but also has 3 cars and 2 vans

I can fully sympathise with the fella complaining,it is very annoying. Hopefully you'll get your cars sold and all will be well.

My advice to you would be to sort it amicably,even if it means stepping back a little. Neighbour disputes have a way of getting out of hand and souring the rest of your life

Take my situation: Our house has a decent sized rear entrance, (no vehicle access at the front). It's decent 'cos I MADE it decent when I put the fence/gates in We can easily swing in, and out of it...........in fact my lads swing in a bit TOO fast, but that's another story.

We've put paving slabs down on part of one of the back lawns, so that we can now park 4 cars off the road, only one of which is blocked in at any time.

the rest of the neighbours at the rear have VERY narrow drives. I've watched one bloke getting his car, a MkIV Astra, out and he has to reverse down the drive avoiding downpipes and his fence. It takes him about 5 minutes to do it. Recently, his daughter's marriage broke up, and HER car appeared at their house. It started being parked outside OUR house, as his is on the street outside HIS house all day for obvious reasons.

This meant that people visiting us had nowhere to park.

BUT: my property has a long enough kerbline to allow TWO cars.

I just had a word with matey and asked him to park his daughter's car further along, or closer to our gate so that another car could use the space too, and explained why.

No probs, still friends, no bad feelings.

luminious is quite correct. These sort of things blow up into huge arugements and tend to causes problems for the future. I can see both points, perhaps if the guy wasnt so abrupt to you, you may of been more helpful. Its more the attitude of the person, than the actual subject matter.

Ive had terrible rows with my neigbhours, infact when they moved in, on the first day, 5 mins out of their car, the wife of the couple told me my swimming pool was built illegally. That was the first thing she ever said to me !! :-) Since then Ive had planning application arguments, parking issues, everything.

However, I went over and made peace, as its easier to just get on, and be friends, as I can see his wife is a type of old cow that loves an enemy, loves someone to hate, and she's now concentrating on another neigbhour :-).

Just stay legal, make sure all the cars have tax / mot 's, and be polite. If you see the neighbour, greet him with a good morning or whatever, and be friendly. One thing I learnt being a doorman, agression fuels on agression, so be polite, as those cars will soon go / sold, but a neighbourly feud lasts for years.

Failing on that, chin him ! Make sure there's no cctv, or witnesses ! :-) ahaha

Used to have a similar problem years ago.. We just extended the drive way and had the kerb dropped by the council.. That REALLLY pissed the neighbours off then cars were off the road though, but now means no one else could park there because it would be causing an obstruction..

My missus gets on at me when I have cars to sell and they clutter the place up, funnlliy enough she rarely moans when I drop £500 profit, don't bother anymore as the neighbours were getting nosey and it only takes one to get a bit jealous thinking you are making a fortune to drop you in it, even though it was all declared.

LOL, we are in very similar situation.

Had no end of arguments with the neighbours over parking. Got to a point when we bought my wifes last car. The scoob was gone (sob) and we were having new furniture so the old stuff was in the garage. We had 2 cars parked on the road (quite legally etc) and when we came back from work, one of the neighbours parked both cars outside our house as quiet protest.

I couldn't cope with the crap so forked out on a nice big driveway. I can't afford to buy another Impreza for a bit but at least I've got somewhere away from w*nker neighbours when I do get one.

Try and keep the peace but if they want to be funny, ignore them and if they hassle you threaten police. If you contact the police twice about someone behaving in a threatening manner, they have to do something - very funny watching a neighbour who has caused you grief getting bollocked by the police.

New estate parking ehh, what a pain in the ***.

I have 2 garages and a 4 car drive (6 at a push) and most of the other houses have 1 garage and 2-3 car drive but the houses are all staggered so driveways arent directly opposite other peoples, now the bit that p#sses me off.

When my opposite neighbour has visitors they park outside her house but not across her drive (They are visiting so she isnt going anywhere) but it then means its a pain having to avoid hitting the visitors car which is directly across from my driveway.

I did ask the neighbour in question politely to ask her visitors not to cause the obstruction as prevention is better than the cure.She only has 1 car so they could park on her drive very easily.No problem she said but guess what they still do it most mornings as its her mother picking up the grand kids for the school run.

Top prove a point i left my wifes car (Freelander) outside my drive in the road which you can just about squeeze 2 cars past but not when the said Granny abandons her Volvo half on the pavement right opposite mine.

8:30 arrives and cars backed up going nowhere in or out of the estate.I played deaf on hearing the car horns and she moved the Volvo onto the driveway (Result at last) i then came out and played dumb (i find it easy) and she moaned that i had caused the obstruction.
After politely informing her that she was causing the problem by not thinking about how she parked and that it was she who was breaking the law by parking half on the kerb dirrectly opposite a vehicle correctly parked in the road thus blocking passage for any other vehicle, she was at fault.

End result is she now uses her daughters drive and gives me funny looks all the time.

Maybe its your diagram but it looks as though the car on the left could be parked by the two in your drive and the one on the right without causing any extra problem. Hard to say of course without actually being there. Nevertheless, I have always found it to be an advantage to try to help a neighbour out.

On another point which happened many years ago.

I was parked on a Girlfriends driveway in the dark in the p#ssing down rain, ran out to the van and both jumped in paying no attention to what may be behind (shouldnt have been anything as i was last on the drive) anyway reversed out and hit an old Mk iv Cortina (In Brown, lovely)the drivers wing fell right off on the spot.

Her next door neighbour heard the bang and promptly called the Police who when they arrived informed him he was breaking the law by A: Parking on the pavement. B: Blocking somebodys in use driveway. I dont think it helped his cause as they wernt very happy standing around in the p#ssing down rain over a damaged wing.

The look on his face was great, i think he wanted the Dagenham sh#t box writing off the way he was acting.

They then asked did i want to pursue him for any damage to the van, there wasnt any as the tow bar had hit his car and all was fine.

Last i ever heard about it.

This is all about those who are selfish and those who are not. I never park anywhere on our street that would inconvenience the neighbours, unless I ask them first.
We have room for 2 cars on our drive and 2 in front of the house (1 across drive / 1 in front of lawn).
The dimwit two doors up has room for 3 or 4 also but what he does is this:
Parks 2 on his drive and 1 in front of our house (or our neighbours) / drive on a regular basis, so he is not inconvenienced but we are so who's right!
What makes this worse is that he has a jag x-type 3.0 that he thinks is special (s*it cars), that sits in his drive for days on end doing nothing and parks either his works van or his clapped out citroen xantia (that he makes his wife drive all week) in front of us
No one else does this and if we all had three cars the street would be a mess
Some people are only interested in their own little world, everyone on here has probably been annoyed with an inconsiderate neighbour causing you problems parking whilst leaving themselves ok, they suck and should be hung from trees naked and pelted with hedgehogs... rant over

In answer to the OP... sell the 2 cars you don't need and park in your drive, enjoying the fact that the street is clear and easy to access for everyone The clio is just the start and you will get p*ssed off with it taking up space in the street whilst serving no purpose. If everyone in your street had 4 cars what would it be like? Awful right
