You want some of these then Find Remote control socket adaptors 3000W - 3 Pack BARGAIN ! on eBay within, Home Automation, Gadgets, Consumer Electronics (end time 03-Nov-07 15:00:00 GMT)

Fantastic things I've got all my tv and av stuff plugged into these so switching everything off is a doddle. I've even got the kettle plugged into one so I don't have to get up to boil it.

Unfortunately they won't make the tea for you though!

B&Q are doing a 3 plug set that looks better than those. Their price is £20. The remote on the B&Q system has a button to turn all plugs on/off in addition to individual settings. The remote also has a toggle to work on 4 different frequencies I think, so that means you could have up to 12 in the house. The remote is meant to work through walls and ceilings too.

Guess who has been looking into getting some of these this week?

If you press the power button on my tv it puts it in standby just like using the remote. I actually have to turn it off at the plug to properly turn it off, how silly.

I've seen plenty of these before and most of them are rubbish and too fiddly to work easily, the Byron ones are really simple with three on/off buttons on the front but they also have a sliding switch on the back for a/b/c/d so you can control upto 12 sockets on one remote. They do work through ceilings/walls as I often start the kettle boiling downstairs when I get up in the morning. Lazy but who cares!

I think it is a bright spark of an idea thought up by some smart **** to impress his bosses! Bit like these low energy light bulbs which use up more energy overall to make and to dispose of than to use an incandescent light!

The only thing that will ever make me turn off my TV at the plug (or any other electrical item at that) is my electrickery bill.

Thanks to this global warming and energy crisis nonsense, the power companies have the perfect excuse to hike up charges due to resource costs or "investing in the environment"

In fact, if solar/battery storage was financially viable (which it is a long way off for a decent 20Kw install), I would be all for it if it saved me money......the fact its better for the environment or not doesn't bother me in the slightest.
