Dont mind proper organised displays ( most of which are pretty impressive and have 'proper' big fireworks ) on the 5th - its the month afterwards where all the people have them at home that annoys me. They buy a bargain clerance box of fireworks that last about 10 minutes, and most of them are crap - just dont see the point.

The thing that really annoys me, and I dont see the point of, is the airbomb sort - wow, it went bang really loud WTF ???

I must admit - I'm getting pretty tired of firework night and its not even the 5th yet LOL!

They were going off last night - my daughter isn't a lover of them - big wussy but did finally go to sleep - but they were still going off at 10.45 - which i consider to be a bit late. I'm all for organised displays - but stongly beleive that they should not be for sale in other places - such as TESCO (which i was quite surprised at when i went there 4 weeks ago) and other shops/stores!

I guess we'll be hearing them though until at least January - and by then they'll be second nature LMAO

Has been a lot better round here this year, last night was Bonfire night really and it was noisy, we went to some friends and there were a lot of massive fireworks, their dogs sat and watched, the cats looked chilled about thirty people, loud bangs and smoke as well.

Our dog is blind and deaf so its not an issue !

Im all for the banning of sales of fireworks to the public tbh.
And have to agree with a comment above that you are actually allowed to buy explosives!
Watching Street Crime UK the other night and saw 2 phone boxes being blown up with rockets, one completely destroyed..... and you can buy those....... over the counter........ no questions, no licence, no experience... just light here!!!

Blackheath was a great example of how good fireworks can be, amazing 30 min display with some crazy special effects. Sparklers not permitted due to the close proximity of people etc. One of the best displays I have seen in years. Looking forward to the 4th July in the USA next year though

Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun, but there should also be a feeling of responsibility to go with it. It all called thinking about someone else instead of just yourself-I am sure you can work it out!

It is a terrible time for pets. I certainly think it should be restricted to Nov 5th only with severe penalties for those who transgress.

It must be to do with where you live - I've not had any problems with fireworks EVER!!!

A couple of years ago we put on a fireworks display in our bottom field that put the local display to shame. A bargain at only £xxxx when bought direct from the manufacturers!

And what about the pet owners who are not selfish. What about their animals who are petrified. Not so funny if its your kid who is terrified and next door think its funny.

Snazy, the problem is that there are seemingly fewer and fewer pet owners who aren't selfish. The horsey brigade round here plough up the common, ride on the footpaths and let their animals crap all over the place whilst expecting people to stop washing their cars in their own gardens so that they can 'enjoy' poncing round on their nags.

We've got a woman over the next field who keeps her dogs in a kennel and they constantly bark and yapp all day and she had the nerve to write to all the neighbours requesting they didn't have fireworks parties, which I think only made the situation worse as a couple of doors down went for it big time - looked and sounded like Helmand province. She then decided that the best policy was to put music on (outside) at full blast presumably to calm her dogs - why she didn't simply take them indoors I don't know. I was watching from my office in the garden and was starting to worry about getting caught in the crossfire - blue on blue I think they call it?

Given that everyone else round here insists on foisting their hobbies on the rest of us, if some of them want to set off a few fireworks then why not.

lol oh dear, talk about taking things to extremes.

I would say 80%+ of dog owners are considerate. Going back to another thread about people letting their dogs off the lead, the comments in this thread highlight the issue with that perfectly.

Sadly I would also say 80% of fireworks sold over the counter are to idiots, either chavs, or people who insist on using them at 1am after a skin full of alcohol at their party.

We're talking about pet owners and I'm not restricting my comments to dog owners but including horses and others. Simply put, if we want to inflict our pastimes on others then we have to accept that others can do likewise so in the case of fireworks that's the way it has to work.

Yup guess I agree with that statement mate.
Just a shame in both catagories there are those there to ruin it for everyone else.

Got no issue with fireworks as a whole, just some of the clowns they are sold to.

I set light to £145 quids worth of the things tonight.
Very good it was too.
They lit the local quarry up like Baghdad, it was beautiful night for it too..
I live on a farm and had about 400 acres to play with but thought it was best out the way of the animals and in an unpopulated area.
I cleared all the crap up afterwards as well, not like some ***** that had been there before. (obviously popular area)
Nice little bonfire to keep warm, although one of my mates nearly set himself alight having brought a can of petrol to "get the fire going".
God knows where his common sense was tonight !!
I was busy setting the fireworks up when I heard a big WHOOOOSH and the quarry lit up like a Christmas tree, he'd only tried to add some more petrol to the fire... after it was lit !! Jesus..
Needless to say that's the fastest he moved all day and the plastic can was consumed by the fire after he dropped it in fright when the whole lot went up..

I think that most here are complaining about the unrestricted and very irritating habits of those lunatics who feel they have to terrorise the neighbourhood for weeks before and after Nov 5th. They appear to want to cause the most havoc possible and causing animals to be terrified is all part of that. Even to the extent of tying fireworks onto the pet concerned.

If everyone sets off some fireworks in their back gardens for their children and lights a small bonfire on the day in question, that is perfectly acceptible in my view. When I was a lad we used to combine with our neighbours and have a bit of a do for us children for a reasonable period and then stop at a fair time to all in the earlyish evening. Everyone kept their pets indoors and there was the minumum havoc caused to them.

The point that pet owners are making is that overdoing it with commercial bangers etc is cruel to the animals. Do you think that is of no consequence? The business of "Tit for Tat" that you mention is very unfair I think.

Its a bit of a "cop out" talkng about just "a few fireworks" on one evening when the truth of what actually happens is very different indeed.

Fireworks are great, wonderful on or a couple of nights either side of Bonfire night so people can enjoy them at a time convenient to them, what really annoys me is the inconsiderate scumbags that were setting them off until 2am last night !

What kind of tosser sets off loud explosions when 90% of the population are deep in sleep, I kept nodding off and then being woken abruptly by loud bangs, heart pounding, got up and tried to see where they were coming from but the cowards only set single bangs off so you cant identify where its coming from, I was lieing there waiting for the next one, then would start dropping off at which point it would then happen, fianlly stopped at 2am.

I was honestly considering going and battering someone last night, today I am knackered.

Who is it that does this ?
