Les, spot on mate.

J4CKO. They are the arseholes I mean mate! We had some people with what I can only describe as industrial level fireworks by me a couple of years ago. 1am they decided to use them.

When I say things were shaking in the house..... alarms were going off for god sakes.

Family, friends, planned little displays. No issues. But anyone walking into a shop and buying a packet of bangers and airbombs is not likely to be having a "display" now are they.

Fortunately one of my dogs is deaf. We used to have to sedate him but the tabs lasted well into the next day so he looked pissed on his morning walk
The other dog sits and watches the pretty sky.

we can't have our little display untill Saturday due to friends/family not being here until then, but I've only bought the nice big rockets 'cos the kids don't like really big bangs.

Some of us just can't let them off on the 5th.

I got a biggie to go to this Saturday..
Bonfire is bigger than the farm house (5 bed detached)

2 firework displays as well, one for the kiddies (which incidentally is fapping amazing) and then 1/2 later after some pork rolls and a few pints of scrumpy the proper fireworks start.. £5k's worth last year.
Always a great show, just hope it's not blowing a gale like it was last time.

If everyone sets off some fireworks in their back gardens for their children and lights a small bonfire on the day in question, that is perfectly acceptible in my view. When I was a lad we used to combine with our neighbours and have a bit of a do for us children for a reasonable period and then stop at a fair time to all in the earlyish evening. Everyone kept their pets indoors and there was the minumum havoc caused to them.

The point that pet owners are making is that overdoing it with commercial bangers etc is cruel to the animals. Do you think that is of no consequence? The business of "Tit for Tat" that you mention is very unfair I think.

Its a bit of a "cop out" talkng about just "a few fireworks" on one evening when the truth of what actually happens is very different indeed.

Its called tolerance Les. You might get terrorised in your area by people letting off fireworks but we don't. Neighbours started letting them off on Friday night through to last night which is a hell of a lot better than having to put up with the horsey brigade's selfish attitudes all year long but unfortunately you just have to live with it.

You obviously have a problem with the horse riders and also the woman with the dogs, and I can understand your irritation. Luckily we , like you don't have troubles with the hooligans but I know enough people who do and their antics are at least as much over the top with their attitudes towards having "fun" by terrorising animals and people too when they get the chance-basically vandalism if you think about it. Our local horse riders seem to be reasonable when they are riding them too.

It is difficult to stop dogs barking if they have a mind to do so but she could at least keep them indoors while the fireworks are going off.

My major point was that it did not seem right to be letting off fireworks without a thought for the animals since it can have such a great effect on them, even if their owners are unreasonable with their behaviour. Maybe a meeting could produce an acceptable compromise.

Don't understand the bit about washing cars and the horse riders though!

Les, its dead simple. The woman with the dogs could quite simply, as you say, have taken her dogs inside but instead felt compelled to put crappy music on to make her point but as we all have to put up with her dogs yapping day in, day out it would seem she's not one to take others into consideration. One selfish pet owner.

The horsey brigade think its quite acceptable to ride tandem round the lanes (dangerous) and expect traffic to slow for them whilst riding across the green and various footpaths which are preserved for pedestrians - I'm talking about the type of footpath through fields here. They also seem to think its acceptable to ride along paths whilst allowing their animals to crap everywhere and then expect me and others to stop washing our cars (with jet washers) whilst they ponce past. More selfish pet owners.

These are the same people who then complain about people letting off fireworks because they lack such fundamental consideration for others that they believe the have some pre-ordained right to expect other people to cater to their hobbies, rather than the other way round.

My dog doesn't like fire works so I simply took him into the lounge and allowed him privileges - cuddle in the couch whilst being 'force fed' dog treats and the cat was brought in. No biggy.

My point is that despite all these numpties seemingly thinking the world owes them a living, I'll tolerate it (ok, I won't turn the pressure washer off) and I don't see why they can't tolerate people letting fireworks off given that we're only talking about a few days a year compared to their year round activities being inflicted on the rest of us.

Your missing the point mate.

a) Your own experience is just that, and not necessarily reflected in the experience of the majority

b) Its not just a few days a year in many suburban areas

c) Every year innocent people and animals are seriously injured/maimed/tortured by accidents/idiots/scum

d) Property gets damaged (my colleague's neighbour's flat was gutted from a fire due to a firework being thrown through the letterbox).

I'm all in favour of organised displays, but I believe that the sale of fireworks to individuals needs to be stopped for the simple reason that people are either to stupid to act responsibly and with consideration or simply choose to act like arseholes.

I disagree. You're painting too broad a brushstroke regarding the type of people who buy fireworks and if you want to sanction them or restrict their purchase then you're going to have to apply the same levels of responsibility on horse and dog owners.

Obviously, maiming or torturing animals is not on but there are just as many incidents of this with owners of animals as there are of individuals using fireworks to inflict injury.

Admittedly, the neighbours round here who let off fireworks could have volunteered to 'sweep' the gardens for the remains but then the horsey brigade could clear up their crap as could the dog owners - aint going to happen though.

As I said at the beginning - tolerance is the key here unless of course we're talking about extreme examples.

I find most dog and horse owners to be considerate. It's the cat people that want a rocket up their ****. Let their lovely pets out to crap all over your garden, fight and wail at all hours, take fish out of your pond and polish of the wildlife that have been nesting in your tree/hedge.

Cheers
