Although I enjoyed it for what it was I suspect there will be more entertainment and laughs through Africa in the hour after Topgear.
I've already read The Long Way Down and if the TV shows half as good it will be excellent viewing.
Ewan and Charley are actually driving through Africa and having fun (eventually) not going to Africa just to make a staged TV show.
Cheers

I enjoyed the episode.
The part driving through the dust made me laugh and Hammond is shipping 'Oliver' back over here in a crate.
They gave the Lancia and the Merc to the mechanic who helped them throughout the route but Hammond has paid to ship Oli home as he couldnt part with it.

I had to watch it last night as I was at a friends house. I've tried as hard as I can not to watch this series because of how bad the last series was. TBH this show, special or not, was very cringey and obviously staged. It seems even worse than the last series, a feat in itself!
If these three adolescent clowns want to faff about in staged, contrived farce maybe they should be allowed to do so, but to drag down a previously well watched and informative car show with it is a broadcasting crime.
A previous poster says watch other car shows if your not happy like 5th gear, well actually I do. Luckily as the BBC has ruined the show other channels have picked up the ball and making a success. Love or hate Mike Brewer, Penny Mallory, Dominic Littlewood and the rest of their like, they actually present shows in the spirit of the old Top Gear, informative car shows. Not car exotica **** or adolescent guff.
TopGear has become a platform for inflated egos and boyhood dreams of the presenters. When cars are shown they usually are very niche cars costing several hundred thousand pounds, hardly something most of us are likely to have on the drive anytime soon.
When TG picked up an award the other night was JC joking when he mumbled that the TG audience figs had fallen from the previous series?

Why do they continue with this tired old the producer gave us £1000 each.... bollocks?
Why didn't they use a military spec hummer, a wildcat, and a Dakar rally bike/car/truck for instance? Now that would be worth a watch, breaking down in a banger is getting a bit tiresome.

Geeks arguing over a car related show... whatever next. You only have to look at the 20 page threads on here over an oil change procedure to see that the majority of Scoobynet should not be allowed any opinion on what makes an entertaining Tv show. As for those sanctimonious prats on about the licence payers money well be aware that TG generates far more than it costs to make. I think the people complaining used to prefer last of the Summer Wine and now feel cheated they cant have their Sunday night shuffle to Thora Hird

bloody out of tune as well

Found it funny, not as good as the polar one, but have to admit to nearly falling off the sofa laughing when I saw the " weight saving " they had done
