Thank you, Its horrible seeing any pet suffering, especially as its my G/F first pet.. she never had any as a child and was over the moon to get the Gerbils. Had them over a year now and although they dont show the same affection as dogs and cats, they have personalities that make you smile!

Hectic - although i feel your infraction was unjustified you were a bit close their mate.

people (me included) took the p*** probably because it was a Gerbil.

would we have done the same if it had been the guys dog???

just a thought
chief, some people need to take a good hard look at the reality in the world.. its a fekkin gerbil for gawds sake.. i can apreciate the 'feelings ' involved but if you look at some of the threads in here lately , it puts things into perspective.
now i understand where Pimmo's lines drawn in the sand . I'll be more observant of it in the future

*and it seems im to sit the infraction through as webby also believe s theres multi layered laws in here too as it seems hec says something close to the knuckle, as do others but hec is made the scapegoat as per..
ahh well, C'est La Vie'....

i can see your point but i can also see Pimmos point as well.

With regards to infractions tbh i'm not a big fan, why? because people get too touchy and issue them before thinking and slanging matches normally end up in a lot of tit for tat infractions, it seems webby spends his time going through Scoobynet policy.

Dont think i'm some tree swinging veggie eating animal lover btw.

Same with Sonic and Scooby though, doubt they paid the £££ its costing to make him better.. but I dont think they even considered not paying !

Obviously the limits are slightly different with a Gerbil but I wouldn't think twice about £100 to make him well !

Damn I pay more than that on a night out

take it your not really an animal lover ? if you were, it wouldnt enter your head that ''Thats wayyyyyy too much to be spending on *Fido/ Moggie/ Kevin/Roland *etc etc... its all relevant to the 'bond' you have with the particular animal.

*pimmo.... no hard feelings (well not many, not toawrds you anyway, more at the inconsistancies in the overall scheme of things ) ... my 'black eye' (infraction) will be healed by tomorrow evening, so no one will notice it when i go out for a drink or three

similar here regards money outlayed.

henry and his mate "turbo" (my hamster of an original pair) cost us £12 for the pair. mine was a little erratic and ate some of henry one night, so we took him back and just kept henry.

thus far id say safely about £50 has been spent on him and his mouth growth. but when the little fella is running in his ball or trying to escape from your grasp.... its worth it. will have them again easily, as said before im limited due to fur reactions on dogs/cats. plus his poos are no bigger than a grain of rice.

pimmo, hope all is well anywho.

Sorry to hear pimmo, fingers crossed he will get better. Have you taken him to the vets?

No, vet will put him down and he doesnt seem to be suffering, hes sleeping, struggles to walk.. but if he wasn't drinking he'd be dead by now so i assume he's drinking when I'm not there.

If he shows signs of pain I'll get him put down, but according to the links and PMs strokes are common in Gerbils and they recover if they only have one... its been a few days and its not happened again so I assume hes got a chance!

Also if its had a stroke and is struggling to walk its unlikely to recover from any paralysis caused by the stroke. Vets put animals down for good reason, not because its the easiest solution.
Gerbils recover from strokes unless they have more than one. It managed to chew up a whole loo roll so its not in that much pain.

Who said I know better than a vet? I've had a lot of animals and I do actually care a great deal for them ! It moves around the cage and as I said was able to chew up the roll!

What could a vet do ?? put it down ? the vet would say the same as me.. he wouldnt know if it was in pain and would suggest keeping it warm and making sure it has food and water !

Well he said theres not much they can do with gerbils which is what I expected. He said he thinks it will be in some pain but its a balance between life and pain ! I decided to try and save it with some medication and am gonna give him two days to show some improvement.
Vet said it could be an infection or it could be a tumor ! he doesnt know and has no way to tell. I have to give the gerbil its medication oral injection style which I'm not looking forward to!!

He said it doesnt look good for the poor gerbil but given hes eating, drinking and moving around I'd say his life is worth a shot !!

OK up date as of today.. for all those that gave me advice !! (THANKS)

I’ll start from the beginning.

Gerbil was walking side ways and rolling over all the time. Looked online and it looked like a stroke. Took him to vet who said he’s suffering, try this medication for 2 days and then bring him back to be put down.

Day three I gave him three toilet rolls and he chewed them all up.. but still felt limp in my hand (no dick jokes : ) )

Ask girl friend to take him to another vet just to double check and have him put down.

Vet said he wouldn’t dream of putting him down, he’s a happy little gerbil ! Advised to up his antibiotics and if no better in a week we’ll start him on steroids !

The blood has cleared mostly from round his ear and his ear is standing up again.

So to sum up.. one vet decided he needed to die and if it wasn’t for me being a big girl and not wanting my gerbil to die he would be dead!!

Praise be to the new vet !!!
