FQ 340 or Type-R?

John Banks :-)
Why did you opt for a 340 Evo and not the 360 Evo?
Curious as I'm thinking of purchasing an Evo as my next vehicle and cant decide which to get - I want a nearly new car......... not even going to consider the new Evo as they are just too heavy
I would decat, filter and remap and methonal mix - what could I expect to get with a 360 versus a 340?
(I currently own an sti5 (=bottomless money pit), Ecutek'd wrx04 and Brand new Forrester STI. (sti5 and wrx04 are now essentially track cars - I use the wrx04 when the sti5 is being repaired (i.e. new engine or brake discs - had to wait 7 weeks for last set of discs from AP!!)

If you are thinking about an Evo ix, if you are going to mod it as you suggest then buy the FQ300 and save a fortune. All the IXs have the same engines and turbos (not true for the VIIIs). The only difference is in the map & the trim inside. On those grounds its very difficult to see the value in the 360. An FQ300 comes in 5-6k cheaper, spend 1.8k with xtreme for the 360/360 upgrade and you are 3-4k in pocket.
If you are going for the Viii, the MRs have a different turbo package which seriously influences your future bhp, also the MR340 has a piggy back ecu which was replaced by a straight map change and standard across the range ecu on the IX.
PM if you want to know more...I own a IX 340, I plumped for the 340 because of the trim level, but if you aren't bothered about 1/2 leather and smartnav save your money the rest of the car is the same apart from the mapping. You can take a IX 300 to 400bhp just as easily and at the same cost as a IX 360.

If I had the money Id have a Evo IX GT, lighter then any other Evo IX and hasnt got the dreadful gAYC that spoils the Evo experience in my opinion.
Prices should be good for the Evo IX once the X is officially out in the UK, and as someone has already pointed out, full exhaust, fuel pump, filter and a remap can see 400bhp, which cant be to bad from a modding point of view.
