Don't forget much needed increases in funding for minority groups, young offenders, gay rights and muslim awareness either.

No benefits for immigrants unless they arrive by UN sanctioned and verified political asylum, or worked and contributed full NI and income tax for not less than 5 years. No NHS treatment except emergency unless the health service or government of the immigrants country of origin agrees to pay in full (a bit like our E111 or whatever the new equivalent is).
No child benefits for any child beyond the 2nd for any individual female, this also includes housing needs (by all means have a family, but a small one if you can't afford a large one).
Immediate deportation of all foreign criminals on completion of their FULL sentence with a lifetime ban on re-entering Britain, any attempt to re-enter carries life imprisonment.
Prisons to allow the subcontracting of work and prisoners to be paid NMW, then charged 70% of that for bed and board, the remainder split into pocket money whilst inside and an account for their release. Failure to work sees no privileges. Light, heat, phone calls, access to entertainment area, decent food (the alternative being a nutrient correct grey and tasteless Kosha/Halal and whatever paste) etc etc.
Appointment of a 'Minister of Common Bloody Sense' whom must be a Yorkshireman and has the power to over-rule any policy, decision or ruling which is stupid (for example, prisoners in a Yorkshire gaol suing for £10m as there was a ham sandwich on the menu during Ramadan ).
That's a start

That's an interesting point of view gc8wrx, however why do you seek to silence mine?
I'd much rather see my tax money going to raise Muslim awareness and highlight the difficulties faced by the gay community than causing mayhem in Iraq for example.

Proper, True. Id be up for this.
We need to get all the car clubs running together to sort this out once and for all.
I bet thats when the police would be out in force and not bothered about looking for theives etc.
why dont they listen to the public.
Its because we are soft and they know most people have to carry on to pay the bills, thats because how hard its become to live(or should i say Exist)
Are we all brainwashed.
lets do something. before the country goes to the dogs.(too late)

I had an email today suggesting that we chain mail each other to suggest a total boycott of buying fuel from the top two petrol stations(it did mention who). It reckoned if enough people boycotted them it would force them to lower the prices and that would snowball to the other companies.
I am not saying I agree with this thought just wondered if anyone else has an opinion?

It will be £1.20/£1.30 this time next year I reckon.
And I bet most people here will still be driving regardless.
Why? Coz we can all afford it. We make economies elsewhere as we need to drive.
OK, it's not nice and not great but lets face it, the govt. are NOT going to reduce duty on fuel (don't think a change of govt. will make a difference either). Petrol companies aren't making more and are on a low (per litre) profit margin so there's little reduction they can make. As prev stated, barrel of oil is much $$$'s at the moment and doesn't look like changing.

people in this country don't give a damn about anyone but themselves, that is why the govt knows that we will not protest as it will affect our OWN lifestyles too much, people are up in arms about the cost of fuel but do nothing about it, this current economy is abhorrent, punishing the poorest who will get poorer, how can we be one of the richest countries in the world yet have oap's dying of hunger,

I find it total bollox the fuel pricing in this country. £1.05 a litre, 65p goes to the Gov.
Now, we are currently fighting s war over in Iraq, which is basically to do with oil rights. The US seem to do well out of this, as their fuel is still cheap, but ours is going up. So, makes you question why are we over there in the first place, as we seem to get nothing from it, no cheap fuel, lots of immgrants coming over to the UK.
I can understand why thousands of uk residants are now emigrating to the US / Oz.

Er... in the US fuel has gone up dramatically in price and in relative terms the rises are much higher than ours. By that I mean where we are paying 30% more than a year ago they are paying 1.5 times that. While you may say well it is still cheaper than the UK you have to admit that something going up in price like that would be not the easiest thing to absorb in terms of your monthly budget.
If you look at the US pump price at the start of 2005 compared to now it is even worse, petrol has more than doubled in price in 2.5 years.

f1_fan, then I stand corrected. Perhaps we should send over some more troops, perhaps another 10,000, all armed with 5litre petrol cans ! :-)
I once read someone calculations regarding diesel cars compared to their petrol counter part. Considering diesel is now 4p a litre more expensive, and diesel cars are more expensive to buy, adding the fact that modern petrol engines are more fuel efficient, and cheaper, that you would need to travel over 150K in the diesel car to make it worth while ??
Anyone else read something like this, or done any type of maths to prove or disprove the theory ?

Double or treble the cost and price people off the roads is what I'd like to see. It would cut down on all these numpties driving to supermarkets to buy food and take their kids to school and leave nice empty roads for those of us that can afford it. (BTW I cycle to the shops for all my stuff and if I had kids they'd walk/catch the bus getting valuable exercise)
Likewise road pricing, bring it on- the increase in my quality of life because I wouldn't have to share the road with as many people would be well worth 10 times current costs.
Same reason I fly first class, holiday in places that toerag english football hooligans can't afford etc etc.

I realise this is SN but do you really believe the government is responsible for everything? Do you also realise the fuel price is near enough in line with the rest of Europe these days? In fact it's slightly more expensive here in the Netherlands, road tax is higher too.
The fact is demand will exceed supply of oil in the relatively near future, what do you think that will do to the price? I don't like it either but it's never coming down, so deal with it.
If you want to blame the gov't for something then for me it's the abhorrent waste in the public sector - restructuring this and agenda-for-change of that, repeat ad nauseam. Fix that and maybe the duty could come down, but in the end it won't make any difference as soon enough the oil will be twice the price of the (fixed) duty and more.

Agree with some of your comments - however i bet the public transport system in the Netherlands is not a shambolic mess. (if it is then i stand corrected)
i went to Norway 2 years ago and the petrol over there is about the same as here maybe a touch more but we got speaking to the locals and the average wage for someone working in a factory or laboring is around 15 pounds a hour and anyone with a skill more like 25 an hour , so really it was down to cost of living.

It's a disgrace. I've just paid £1.12 per litre to fill up my car.
The garage said, 75p of that is tax.
Also, we have Oil central heating. It now costs us £400 to fill up the tank whereas, not that many years ago, it used to cost £130. A hell of a hike in heating costs

What I find difficult to understand is, oil is around $100 a barrel but the dollar has seriously plumetted against the pound so shouldnt fuel be cheaper? lol!

I'd be very interested in that, but a quick google doesn't show the price converted into sterling.
This shows you the rise in dollars though. 10 years ago, 19usd a barrel!!
If Flatcapdriver or a few other fuel experts are around, perhaps they can help?
