I would have thought that a fair percentage of potential STi buyers would be on Scoobynet.

Although I don't entirely dislike the car, the very valid points about residuals put me off. I've had 4 Imprezas, 3 of them STIs and am now in an Audi.

Evo is the only mag I've seen so far to criticise the new STI, and as for "lesser" Imprezas - it just seems to me, every time I read a review of a non-turbo Impreza the reviewers constantly go on about the WRX and STI.

Now.. last time I read a review of some boggo Audi A4, I can't remember the reviewer starting off on a drool-fest about the RS4, and then return to the A4 and say "so.. in comparison. its a bit crap".

Back to the Evo review - it seemed to be more bothered about not being able to get the car sideways; and totally ignored the fact that prehaps not many drivers would want to do that on a public road.

Yeah, I have noticed that too and it annoyed me!

I'm more interested in reading about ride, handling and how does it feel to live with one etc.

Another thing about interior, the magazines always drag on about how 'plastic' the Japanese interiors are yet they look fine to me!

I've bought one Subaru new and that was enough depreciation to last a lifetime. (P1 14k loss after 4 years), so I won't be buying another new one especially as the cars get uglier and blander.

For the record; I actually really like reading Evo. But their reviews are very changable depending on the journo who happens to be on the job that day and if they're a fan of the car or not. Which I don't really mind - but when there are some, frankly, stupid comments about a car which come down to desperately trying to pick holes in something - it annoys me a little.

The STi does seem to suffer enormously heavy losses, 2006 STis with PPP are being priced at around £12,000 if offered in Part Exchange ...... which is simply staggering on a car which cost around £31,000 with the PPP.

I bought my Impreza in May 2000, it's now worth about £4500? Thats a loss of £17,000 ( £2266 a year ) .... but only when I sell - my Impreza will not drop much in value from here on in, so time is now reducing the effect of the depretiation.

I bought new for one simple reason, the Impreza Turbo is a car which needs to be treated well in its early years and miles, the only way to guarantee that care is to do it yourself ........... which costs plenty.

I don't because they are trying to be "Top gear" which makes them Sh1te at reviews because they are just "Copy Cats".

get a Life EVO and make your own opinion rather than playing follow the leader or trying to be "Top Gear"

IMHO

Well i have had the WRX out on demo for 2 days

interior excellent seats are superb very refined cruiser and performance is excellent for 235 BHP and really does pull like a train (and i have driven many variations of scoobies)

It does not have the turn head factor and not many people even notice it on the road or parked up .

The thing i did miss is it is totally silent and you can not here the burble of the flat 4 apart from 1-2 gear when revving hard
eqipment levels good and looks ok and fresh and modern design but why did i not get one
simple reason for me the springs were far too soft
I have a little test route and the new WRX shaved 2 minutes off my normal run but when i got to the end of it i flt slightly car sick due to the soft springs ,perfomnace is really good and it had only 300 miles on clock so better will follow

to sort it new firmer springs and a decat and for those who say it is too expensive well i paid £22600 for mine in 2000 so it is a lot cheaper in real turns
fuel economy is a worry with the computer saying 20mpg average over 170 miles and me putting in £38 of petrol so its a thirsty beast

Im looking forward to testing the STi and i will probably keep hold of my classic and bubble wrap it for 20 years as its only woth as PS lewis says £4-5k but things do move forward and i think the new STi will set new standards and sort out the WRX soft springs issue and with a rumoured 400BHP potential it will be the best yet and price for those who say its dear well the P1 was £32k in 2000 !!

I look forward to seeing many new Sti at NBO6 on the 15th june 08

I had a Seat Leon Cupra before my Bugeye, and Ill tell you the Leons in terior was a hell of a lot more rattly than the Bugeye. True, the interiors arent thebest in the world, but what would you rather, nice interior and poor engine/handling or ok interior and a well sorted car? I know which one I would rather have!

I think that all questions will be answered when the new STi is unveiled IMO.

It is really make or break for Subaru with this model. As we are all aware most car manufacturers are making 200 odd bhp out of the box, so to speak.

Be interesting to see how it performs in the hot hatch sales in the forthcoming year or so.

I said many months ago that I would reserve judgement till I saw one in the flesh. But the pics I have seen are leaning me towards not buying one.

But why oh why, didn`t they rename it? Many people have bought the Impreza due to it been a fast saloon & family friendly.

Maybe they have made a boo boo, we`ll have to wait and see.

Here is a report on the New STi

Subaru Impreza STi uncovered - Secret New Cars - Carmagazine.co.uk

& the new Evo X

Mitsubishi Evo X - First Drives - Carmagazine.co.uk

Go to page 6 of the STi & see how many 06's have been sold.
Wait for the offers!!

Or the ultimate

Mitsubishi Evo IX FQ360 - Super-saloon - First Drives - Carmagazine.co.uk

In all seriousness, if you add the costs of insurance & servicing for 3 years on top of the new price, then deduct the resale value after 3 years for both an STi & EVO 320, you will find you have lost less on the EVO.

I would think the 340 will hold value slightly better.

On the 360 who knows?
