I can double-declutch and raced cars at the higerst Junior level, so I know how to handle a car Mate !

Err, dont think you understand how VTEC works; there is a powerband between 6000 -7500 rpm; so if you're not in the zone its slow, conversly in the WRX as long as you keep the revs bedtween 2500 and 6000rpm the Turbo kicks hard.

So unless you like keeping a car in the 6-7.5k zone the CTR II ain't a quick car.

I drove the new CTR MII and it weights an absolute oxe; old one was 1200kg and the new one is 1350kg with same 200bhp and no torque in relation to its weight

If I had to go back to Honda I would buy the Accord Type R, just as fast a CTR but is better made inside and handles better and looks good even today, and has the best FWD LCD I've ever experenced.

I'm not anti Honda, the S2000 is an excellent car but the Civic has no torque and like many normally aspirated hot hatches have to be driven dangerously by young spotty faced F1 Pilots to give the impression of speed. The CTR is one of the most crashed cars by under 25s!

My wife has a new Golf 170TDI, and the kid at her work with a CTR MII declined a 20-100mph race on bedford arodrome for the V5 document (she was only teasing him; but the torque is massive in the TDI so as I stated again and again Torque make it easy to exploit any car's pontential)

With VTEC engines like that, you need to keep the revs within the VTEC powerband, which is more difficult then it seems. Need to shift really fast, and if it drops out of VTEC, then it'll take forever to get back.

For a start the power band is 5.5k-ish to 8k. If you are short shifting at 7.5k no wonder you found the car slow.

Torque only helps if you are in the wrong gear.

So are you comparing the typeR with the vtec or not vtec then?

We all know VTEC's lack torque.. I know as I've had a 04plate EP3 before my bugeye wrx. But right gear, right speed the typeR always wins, and thats a fact.

But i enjoy midrange torque more, thats why I have a wrx now

Some of the knowledge in this thread about how the VTEC engine works, how it produces power and the Civic Type R is shocking, quite a bit of it made my laugh in fact.

At the end of the day figures are figures, so what if a Type R is quicker to 100mph than a WRX, if you love your WRX then brilliant!!

I owned an EP3 CTR on an 03 plate before my STi and I loved it!

I'm sure that there are modified Novas or VW Beetles out that that could smoke MY07 STi but at the end of the day I know which motor I would rather drive and I love my car!

Saying that a CTR has no torque and that it is slow is a silly thing to say, also keeping the CTR in the VTEC range was eaily done through the gears, end of the day it revved to 8250rpm, get it near 8K revs upon changing and it would stay in VTEC.

Unless we are all talking about taking such cars down to Santa Pod all of this talk is pretty much pointless....
