I live with a parent with cancer. Hopefully she seems to be on the mend and I pray she keeps going in that direction. This sort of thing makes you think about what really is important and to be grateful for what you have in life, as I said earlier.

Life isn't perfect, but appreciate what you have. In the case of the OP, it's not all bad.

I wasn't particularly referring to you, just the general perception that someone may think life is bad, whether down to where they live or the job they have, so on, yet in the grand scheme of things, they have a life many would be more than grateful for.

In your case, you're going to do a good job, somewhere else, where did I say that was wrong?

I have alot of moans and groans in my own life, but I try to remember the good points.

Good luck to you in your new job.

from reading the original post, it may be a case of too much too young? im not suggesting that you havent worked hard for everything you have at such a young age, but you have at 24 what most work their lives for, and your looking for the next level?

maybe an adrenaline rush sport or something totally out of character?

Bilgo if this is a serious post then I sympathise with you. Sometimes people have too much choice and as a result they are not happy with the the things they do choose......

Between the ages of 25 - 30 I went through stages of being very happy and been very unhappy.... I had cars, houses, a wife etc, but sometimes it wasnt enough. As a result I made myself feel better by getting drunk with my mates and flirting outrageously and this ended up with me having two affairs. I thought this would be fun, but trust me it was absolutely crap.... Of course I still get days where I think my life sucks, but trust me, there are alot of people out there who are less fortunate than me.

You will never be completely happy, but you need the lows to appreciate the highs.

Hope it helps.

Generally speaking people are happy when they are improving their lot in life. If they then achieve most of what they want they stagnate, get bored and listless. If things get worse then depression can set in.

Lottery winners feel terrific at first but soon get miserable because there is nothing more to gain. Plus they make the biggest mistake of all thinking that money will bring everything.

My own view is that travel, especially to poorer parts of the world, is a fantastic boost to one's personal feeling of happiness and wellbeing. You really can't beat going to bed knowing that in the morning you may be helping to save a few kids lives' or whatever. At the very least you will gain an insight into how most folk in the world live. But it's easier said than done. You either have to do it at a youngish age before a family and career take over or 30 years later when you can get away. Don't forget though that if you take time out at the start of a career it will stand you in good stead with prospective employers. dl

it seems you have achieved what most people want, car home etc,

perhaps, you have stalled a little and need to get going, again,

try doing some charitable work, not live changing perhaps, but i expect most people on here are reasonably ok, and live comfortably, perhaps doing something worthwhile would build you up again,

Or chant the Scoobynet creed !

choose life.choose a job. choose a career. choose a family. choose a ****ing
big television, choose washing

machines, cars, compact disk players and electrical tin openers........ Choose good health, low cholesterol and

dental insurance. choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. choose a starter home. choose your friends.

choose DIY and wondering who the **** u are on sunday morning. choose sitting on the coach watching mind

numbing , spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. choose rotting away at the end of it

all, pishing your last in amiserable home nothing more than an embarassement to the selfish,****ed-up brats

you spawned to replace yourself. choose your futur. choose life. but why would i want to do a thing like that?

I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? there are no reasons.

who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

O.k Dave consider me put in me place for not using a smiley

In all fairness though there are places that people pay less in taxes less for fuel and road tax , a smaller percentage of their earnings on mortgages , have better weather and a better standard of living in general then that that we have in the u.k. I thinking of Australia for one as i have spent quite a lot of time there. Don't get me wrong i'm not jumping on the bandwagon of Britain bashing but feel my initail rant if you like although tongue in cheek raises a few valid point's about llife in the u.k at the moment. ie
Are we taxed to much inline with the rest of Europe and the Western world ?
Does the motorist in this country taxed to much again comparitively speaking?
Are are immigration policies to relaxed inline with other European country's ?
Are English footballer's payed to much ?

You odviously feel the answer is no to all of the above i personally beg to differ.

Very common among otherwise well adjusted mid twenty somethings with fairly stable lives. I call it the: "Is this all there is?" syndrome.

The answer, I'm afraid is: "Yes, for you, at this point in time, this is all there is! If you don't like it, do something about it! Life, for the most part, doesn't come to you! If there is something you know isn't working in your life, change it, if you need more/different mates, or a new relationship, get out there and get it! If you could do with branching out a bit, take up a new hobby or two. Believe me, there are many more out there thinking the same thing.

Harsh, and easier said than done, but true I think!

The only advice i can give you is **** everyone - no i mean that, what i mean by that is go out and do what you damn well please. if you want to give up your job and bugger off around America or OZ for a year then do it.

***** to any negative comments that you might get. if you want to emigrate then fine - do it - you can always come back. This sort of thing gets put on hold when you start having kiddies with the missus.

If you want to sell everything and go and live in a tent then go for it.

You've obviously got enough money to get you by, maybe go and do a bit of charity work, i dont mean a 5k run or whatever i mean proper hands on stuff, might make you appreciate what you have in life.

Sit down and ask your self what do you really want to do? you might find you already have the answer, then ask yourself, is it a phase? if not then go for it.

lifes too feckin short and were dead a long time

good luck
I think The Chief has got it spot on ... I just wish someone had given me that advice when I was 25.

Do whatever you feel you need to or want to do now while you still can, because before you know it the responsibilities of life will trap you and all you'll be left with is some material wealth and a whole heap of regrets.

I also don't believe that anti depressents are the answer (although they seem to have become the darling of an overworked medical profession ... prescribe and forget). In my experience they they don't only numb the negetive feelings, they numb everything ... which has it's own set of problems.

Best of luck and hope you choose the path that is right for you.

Im not "telling you off" as such, just pointing out that if you dont use the smileys to indicate your humour it can easily be regarded as being serious with some of the characters we have on this BBS.

I think we have a reasonable balance within this country of getting stuff like the above about right. The quality of life within Britain is not bad at all, presuming you get of your ar$e and work for it.

Yeah sure, less taxes in Oz, mortgage wise your looking at simliar interest rates but its all relevant as the earnings are nowhere in line with what you get over here. The countries where standard of life is high, for example Norway, you pay through the nose just for a beer.

About 7 quid for 0.4 litre however house prices in Norway are the same as over here (approx) but a wage for unskilled labour say in a factory is around 15 quid an hour - trust me on this one, skilled more like 30-40 quid an hour

Oh yeah I agree, just pointing out that everything is balanced out in the end, some good points, some bad points.... Suppose it all depends on what your prepared to give up to get

Maybe your just a little depressed, i know a lot of people who go through a mild depression when approaching 30 yo - i know i did, and you know all it took to snap me out of it was a bit of excercise, and a long weekend camping in Anglesey, sounds daft i know but it made me appreciate the simple things in life.

did me the world of good.

You might need a bloody good holiday mate - i dont mean two weeks in Ibiza just a couple of weeks somewhere really relaxing where you can hear yourself think and evaluate your life and what you want to do next.

good luck

Maybe you have achieved too much too soon without enough of a struggle. It is human nature to appreciate what you have got if you had to fight a bit to get it. If you have no ambitions in life to achieve any more then life will become tedious.

If you give your children every toy that they want whenever they say, then it is noticeable how new toys go to the back of the toybox the very next day.
