I was told that the combined dryer models are less reliable but if you get a good model it should be ok-ours is alright so far after a year. I took the insurance for 5 years just in case-new for old if it breaks.

Our Hoover washer-drier has just died after 8 years. Had a new control unit within a couple of months of new, but no problems since.

Need a combined machine because of space restrictions. Have just bought a new Hoover HNWF 7148 having done very little research. Use nature to dry the washing usually, but drier is a handy backup.

Having 2 young kids we thought having a washer/dryer was better than no dryer at all.

As Olly says you can generally only dry half a load and even then its not as good as a standalone dryer, but basically we hang up the large stuff to dry and the dryer copes with all the diddy child stuff, which is handy when the only clean bibs in the house need drying pronto!
