thats weird cos on the bike forums they reckon 95% of car drivers cant keep up lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
and as a scooby driver and a bike rider i must be either in your 10% or there 5%

OK, 0-60 and quarter, its game over isn't it?

I'm pretty convinced from what you all say though, that on a twisty circuit, a decent car could do OK with a good driver against a fast bike.

Power:£ ratio-wise the scoobs seem to be the best bet and I don't mind spending a few quid to beat my mate round the track. And no, I don't hate him - but I do employ him and having staff with substantially better cars than me means I'm in the market for something pretty fast. WRX STI was my first thought and I just wondered how close to the R1 I could get!!!

I kept up with a couple of 600's in my near standard engine WRX.......they were carrying passengers though

When it got to the corners or roundabouts they were struggling though

all i can add then m8 is i hope your pal is a slow rider , as if he isnt your gonna have to spend serious cash to get anywhere near him round a track , or you could of course try to pick somewhere slighly biased towards the car .
cant think of anywhere tho , so good luck and be prepared to dig deep .
lets also not forget you have to be able to drive a car properly to hustle it round a track quick , so your ability to actually drive quick is of course in question also .

would you have kept up if you was towing a trailer ?

my point !

how do you no they were actually trying ! they could have in fact just been bimbling along with there birds on the back {thinking argghh bless him trying 2 race us and were not even trying } , and you was thrashing the spuds of ya car just to keep up .
a second person would significantly hinder / slow the bike anyway , as a performance bikes geometry is built around the solo rider only .

its a bit of a school boy debate really, for starters you can't drag race a car against a bike- due to safety

I suspect its the same on a track too.

so whoopee you may show something on a display board- but its hardly the same as actually watching bike v car.

still if yr a billionaire- go for it. but most things in life are down to ones ability not cash.

as a biker for many years- if you want to go super fast- have a bike. all a car does is keep you warm, the experience is very difference.

apart from when it goes wrong, it hurts less in a car.

I've just sold my 565bhp Evo VII.

It was just about as quick as my production managers GSXR1000 in the dry.

The bike was standard.

The car had circa £100k invested in it a twin plate paddle clutch, and was near enough un-driveable anywhere other than on a circuit.

That's the sort of commitment, and expense, required to beat a quick bike.

Simon

Just to add though- the bke will do it all day every day provided the rider is competent. The car won't without cooking the clutch or lunching the gearbox. Its all down to weight, and needing brute force and ignorance to overcome the power to weight ratio of a bike.

It's not really i'm a biker (well was) and so are a couple of other people in this disscussion who know the best of both worlds and i can say that my sti is not as fast from a standing start as my 600rr was, fact. Any litre bike will **** on any road car in a drag race even the old litre sports bikes.

As a scooby owner and a GSXR owner I can say that on British roads there's no way a car could keep up with a bike. Traffic is a major factor, you can do overtakes on a bike you wouldn't dream of doing in a car. On paper and in open sprints cars can beat bikes, but on Sunday A road runs (The best roads) I'm sorry to say I think any car doesn't stand a chance. in MHO

From all of the above it down to the ability of the rider and driver. You need more skill to ride a bike fast than thats required to drive a car. Thankfull I'm in the group that can and love both. And my Fireblade will not be beaten by a Subaru.
That being said bikes and car are very poor play mates, mainly because more idiots are car drivers and belive that just because you own a bike/ ride a bike you must be either an **** or John Renyolds.

He hasn't got a better car, he's got an R1. Learn to ride, get a GSX1000 and whup his *** if you really must.

Either that or just appreciate bikes for their abilities and accept that unless you have a very specialised car it ain't going to happen.

However, on UK roads, in the wet, with mud etc all over them and with it being cold i know i'd rather be in my Scooby than on my Ninja.

On a straight? Not a chance..

Around a track, defo (depending hugely on rider/driver skill of course).

if you cant beat a bike round knockhill then your not much of a driver to start with. knockhill is ot really a big friendly course and with all they turns u should have him no bother

i have had a race with a few bikes and always find that u start to catch and overtake once ur above a hundred(talk 600 to 650 here) but they kill u on accelaration from low down

"Knockhill BTCC Pole 2007 Darren Turner as near as 53 flat

Virgin Cup - Teenagers riding Yamaha R6's - 53.6 so just over half a second behind

British Superbikes (bike equivalent of BTCC) 48.4 @ just over 94mph so huge difference"

So what ur saying is BTCC drivers cant drive

As for passing a 600cc after 100mph, what power are you running because my P1 is running just under 400bhp and i cant catch my mates R6 and my mates cossie which made over 500bhp at the wheels at ava isnt much quicker than the R6

i was running wrx on 1 bar of boost i have not raced an r6 i think they are top of the 60 range i have passed a couple at about 130 to 140 on acceleration

i was saying as for beating a bike round track it depends on the bike the scoob and both drivers

and one last remark i cant believe you go to AVA biggest bunch of cowboys i have ever had the mis fortune to deal with u cant value your car much to go there

had a zxr 750 h reg that was doing 0 to 60 in 3.8 with very little spent on it, and although i could not corner it to full potential, i have seen people who can, modern day bikes, if you never been on 1 try it, then decide, they r scarier than any car ive been in, acceleration is fearsome.
good luck. think a few people may b suprised at the R1 cornering ability.

wrx doing 140mph hmmmmmmm , think your just about done m8 {surely your flat out } where as the modern superbike is spanking 180mph .
so until you can reach that sort of terminal velocity , i think uve had it .

They were flat out mate, it was my brother and a couple of mates. The bikes were an old CBR and a Bandit, not R6s etc. I had no trouble keeping up really, and i had 2 passengers with me. I think a tuned scoob will keep up with any 600 (just), but wont touch a 1000........

.......but which road car would i wonder?

ok m8 thats abit more info which you could have shared earlier , and a 600 bandit is possibly the slowest 600 ever built {sorry bandit owners } and in no way compares to a modern supersport bike like the new r6 which will do 170mph and is 130hp , and you can half those figures for a bandit 65hp and around 125mph , rubbish comparison for you 2 use m8 tbh .

This all depends on rider ability. i did track days on a old cbr600 i had and was blasting people on r1's and fireblades, most bikers can't ride to save there life they just buy the fastest bike for pub talk! My previous bike a streetfighter 1200 bandit had 130bhp at wheel and mountains of torque (for a bike) No car i have ever driven would have a hope against a well ridden bike unless it was a very twisty track or very wet. I'm a mechanic so have driven all sorts of cars. Autocar did a 0-100-0 test with a few bikes against loads of cars. gsxr 1000 was about as quick a veyron!!!!! Even sports tourers were on par with gallardo's etc. You would have to spend stupid money to have a chance.
If rider is **** though you'll win cause it's easy to drive pretty car fast!
