havent read all 11 pages, but with a good skilled bike rider, a standard car CANT beat a bike.

in a car, 70% of drivers could drive a fast car well, on a bike, 30% ride a bike to its full potential, myself included, i ride a gixer 750, but no way could out ride a fast scoob round the track or mountain terrain, at 140+ round bends i bottle it, some dudes just roar past me at 150 round 60 degree bends and im like, im cool, off you go.

a car can beat a bike, but the bike would be standard, the car would have to be something special.

for those of you you haven been on a yamaha r1, i will give you real world idea of how quick they are.

me and my friends have this little test close to wer i live, which we like to call the roundabout to the junction test (its out the way so no one to kill ect so nice n safe), wen its quiet you go round the roundabout on the the dual carrage way and see what speed you can get wen you go past the junction.

my 1995 sti 2 running about 340bhp could get 120mph

the first week i had my r1 (first 1000cc bike) i tried this. i came of the round about nice and easey then opened it up and the front wheel came off the floor so i short shifted it then it went light at the fron again so i short shifted again and gave it full wack. i hit 154MPH at the junction.

which is jail speed, i think if i tried it again i could get near 160mph but i know the bikes fast, so i dont realy see the point in trying it again lol

Not true. I've drag raced a few at Elvington.

Nearly got to race Pavlo, until an ignoramus on a bike did what they do all the time, and rode down the middle of the queue. Don't mind it day to day, but when I'm paying to do something is taking the **** IMO.

Anyway, thats another matter all together.

As has already been stated, Scooby will need a hell of a lot of power to beat a high performance bike on a drag strip. Nee idea around a circuit though.

If it was a proper 1000, then 0-100 mph in 6 secs, 0-150 in 13 or so.

I overtook an FQ360 (new, a nice '360' sign on the boot and with those little shark fins on the rear window) in a slowish area but I could get past and he couldn't. I hoofed off to around 80-90 on this A road (bit greasy from some light rain) and he caught up very quickly, he was obviously trying quite hard. I kept well in to allow him past if he required, he just followed.

There was one long straight, so I booted the GSXR away and it was obviously he was waiting for this, I left him well behind. I eased off upon catching some other traffic, he caught up, I safely overtook these 4 cars and he was stuck. I didn't see him again.

Another story, I followed two friends one in his M5 (E60) and another (in his CSL) They shot off from me while I put my helmet and gloves on (carefully and slowly), I started to follow and wondered where they were. I caught them up at warp factor 7, 2-3 miles down the road! Once with them, I could keep with them fairly easily even being tail end charlie and once on the open road, could leave it in 6th and just roll on. I then became slightly bored (again!?) and started pulling wheelies to distract them. I think both will admit they weren't hanging about, but a large sports bike can easily keep up with anything.

The advantage a bike has is at lower speeds. Pass 150 and a very fast car will keep up. Roll off the throttle at 185mph on a bike, the air resistance is so much that within a matter of 3 seconds you will be below 120...

The most significant force at work at high speed is drag, which increases exponentially with speed. Cars slice through the air much better.

But, Between 30 and 150 (the real world) bikes completely outclass ANY car. The reason a sports bike can not keep with a car, would be down to one of two factors. 1, the most likely, is the rider is frightened of the bike or conditions, or 2, the conditions are not bike friendly, such as bumpy road, variable grip surface or traffic.

In summary, in daylight on a smoothish non-busy road, you would not even be in the same county as half decent rider on a litre sportsbike.

Guys, stop tw4tting on about your Subaru/Evo etc, get a fast bike and touch the edge (every now and then)

in summary, yes you can build a scoob that will be faster than a standard R1 in a drag race, but it would be a car loosely based on an impreza, kinda like a 6R4 compared to a metro.

There's fast.

There's Very Fast.

There's Stupidly quick.

Then there's Insanely fast

and then there is the GSXR1000...

For those of you who subscribe to pube head Clarkson's attitude to bikes, stop. Just pass your test and get one. I promise you, you have wasted tens of thousands of pounds trying to find what a big bike serves up for less than 5...

My GSXR has a power to weight ratio of over 1000bhp per tonne. I can say, hand on heart, that nothing's come close on the road despite trying hard. Any "play" usually ends with a thumbs up and mutual respect between the parties involved.

After reading this thread, it's unbelievable how many people are unaware how fast a car is around a track when driven properly.....

Also Superbikes are a fair way off the tuners cars around a BTCC circuit.

In the SBK (World Superbike Championship) the lap record for Silverstone is 1'24.558 by Tony Bayliss in the Ducati 999.

Untitled

Zen done it in 1'02.1, and RC won the round with a 1'01.... BIG difference...

If you look at the other competitors times, you can see that the club class competitors beat this time also. Some were running considerably less power than Zen....

Time Attack Series - News

Check the times for Brands Hatch as well, the bikes were lapping in 1'25's and the Zen car done it in 0'49....
Over 30 seconds difference......

Huge difference on Track. A good setup car with good driver will always beat a comparable bike around a track.

Fastest GP bike around the "ring":

7:49.72 157.885 km/h -- Honda RC30, Helmut Daehne (93) (moto bike)

The new GTR beats that time in standard form....

Helmut thinks even todays bikes (R1, GSXR1000) don't have the speed of steering to compete with that time.

A lot of bike riders in top spec bikes are happy to beat the 9 min barrier...
The standard spec C finished it in under 8mins

YouTube - Impreza Spec C Nurburgring 7.59

YouTube - Nürburgring lap on a Yamaha R1

Many people overestimate Super bikes on track and underestimate car's...

Can a car beat a bike around the track?

Yes with a decent driver, quite easily....

get ya facts straight m8 , think your find the bikes were running the gp circuit at brands and the cars were on the indy ,lmaoooooooooooooooo .
A1GP cars dont even do it under a minute !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

o and its troy baylis by the way

just read back and see wizz and others also spotted this , but at the time couldnt be bothered to read through the witterings of silly boys , who think there scoobs are the fastest thing on the road , most of these people have never even ridden a superbike for comparison and couldnt even get a bike license if they tried . those of us that actually have fast cars and fast bikes and can actually ride and drive them properly know what is faster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
job done .

have to say i wouldn t have a bike because i wouldn t have the swingers to cane it.

been on my friends 250 scrambler ( i know it s nothing to an r1 ) but by god do u feel the pull, can only think wot an r1 would be like.

have to say i ve had a couple of goes against bikes on back roads and i wouldn t say i came across a biker that was any more 80% confident in wot they were doing.

bikes are faster than 99.9% of scooby s or evo s, would love to be the 0.01%
if ur remotely interested in bikes its a hell of a cheaper way to get ur kicks.

As an idea regarding bike size/perfomance. On the track in the inters, I will pass most bikes in the group on the corners on my 600, but the litre class bikes will nail me on the straights and I end up overtaking them again on the following corners cat and mouse stylee.

I took my mates K6 GSXR1000 for a spin with him on my bike. I thought I was doing about 85-90 on a twisty country road, I looked down and I was doing 120.

It didn't feel much faster, but I know on a straight, if he stays behind me on his bike, its because he chooses to !

It would take a fairly highly tuned scooby to stay with the 600, and my bike isn't even a recent model.

These are predicted performance stats for the 2008 Zen car. These figures are based on data for the 2007 car, which is actually only fractionally slower. However, Paul has a couple of quite innovative tricks up his sleeve for 2008...

0-60mph/0-100mph(secs)

Zen 2008 Car - Sub 2.5/Sub 4.95

Bugatti Veyron - 2.5/5.5

McLaren F1 - 3.2/6.3

Ferrari Enzo - 3.1/6.7

Hi Andy

I believe that the 2008 car will be using a 2.35 closed deck block as did the 2007 car. However, in some other respects, the 2008 car will be radically different
