When I was out looking at TVs for the kitchen last week I noticed how many 50" tellies are now in the shops and was wondering how many people will be putting them in rooms that are way too small. I looked up the optimum size & distances guide and got my tape measure out and measured the distance from every seat to where the TV will hang on the wall. I thought a 37" was what we would need but it turns out that a 32" is the optimum size so that's what I ordered. However before I ordered it I cut a piece of cardboard out the same size as a 32" screen and stuck it on the wall where the telly will go - people have been laughing at me for being such a ******* but I thought it was a good idea to see how big it will be

My sister and her hubby bought a 42" plasma last year and it's way too big for their room, they've had to change the furniture around so that the telly is further away and it's still too big, even they conceded that eventually.

Thank you Sal, for proving bigger isn't always better

Friends laughed at me when I bought a 23" screen, walk into my place and you don't see the tv, yet the ones with 40" tv's its all you see.

I bought a 37" for the same reason, makes me laugh when I go into somebod's house and see a blury 50" plasma that is designed for a house twice the size.

Too big for what ?

I've got some big TV's but IMHO they look right for the size of the room, but that's when they're turned off. When you're watching them you could go way bigger...

My 50" in the lounge actually has an 8 foot wide projector screen that comes down in front of it for movies - and 8' wide was the recomended size for the distance of the seating......
