It WAS the parents fault in my case, they could have just said "Oi, Damien.. stop wiping snot on Uncle Gene please!" but no... they've tuned him out, so he had free range with me...

Its like having a dog that sticks his wet nose straight into your guests ***** for a sniff.. and you not saying "Oi, stop that..." no slapping needed, just a firm "No" .....

I was always in the I HATE KIDS camp and vowed never to have any until that one day when my wife told me those unforgettable words "Im pregnant", I didnt even get a "I think I am" to break me in gentally no i got the full on jolt in one go.
But as soon as or son was born all doubt and worry passed and I really wouldn't be without him, Im glad we didnt have one sooner though, I was 37 when our some came and think that's about the right age, I would hate to have to cope with a small child if I was in my late teens or early 20's I just dont think I was grown up enough at that age to cope.

J4ckos mate - Exactly - this is a parent issue. The parents are at fault IMHO. If my two are misbehaving, it's not their fault, it's down to mine and wifeydoo555's poor parenting/control.

same thing happens at schools - the kids go to school and some of the parents wash their hands of the discipline, saying that the school should be doing it. WRONG. The parents should be doing it.

And this is what's wrong with society today - unruly kids not being kept in check.

Sonic - I totally understand your stance (my wife's family were in the same situation), however, we're really talking about able kids, not disabled (although I do appreciate that it's probably quite a bone of contention with you - and rightly so)

My local pubs are now "family - friendly", hence I don't go to them much now. So many over-excited kids running around screaming and often wearing no shoes etc..Parents don't control them half the time.
Young children carrying baby sisters/brothers get on my nerves too.
Now found an adult-only pub but one of us has to drive there.
Next time I move house a non-children local pub will be on the list.

It is a bone of contention with us, and there has been the odd occasion that one of us has had to be held back from taking a swing at some folk

The other two always get pulled in to check when unruly etc

I partly blame the schools, as they teach the kids things which are completly acceptable to them, but not to things at home, and ive had this out with the teachers too as it confuses the kids

The so called 'naughty' step is used quite a lot in our house, and not just for Donna either


I do think old people are worse, and in fact all old people should be shot at birth

I took my 8 and 9 year old for a meal recently,full sit down jobby in a nice restuarant.
Quick explanation of what all the cutlery was for (Their faces at the amount was funny) and they where happy, no noise just us all talking.

That is until ''relatives of Genes'' started to look over and quite openly make a remark about 'Children in the restaurant' and how times have changed.

Well me being quite and shy promptly went over and told then in no uncertain terms my money was a good as theres and if they didnt like 'Children in the retaurant' then f#ck off somewhere else, the retirement home they where on day release from seemed a more appropriate place for them to be eating on a Sunday anyway.

I agree children at times should be 'seen and not heard' but to label all children as horrible nasty creatures isnt fair, i too agree in full its all down to the upbringing by the parents in how a child behaves.

..... I do agree, why should you spoil the nice ambience by dragging sprogs into a restaurant... I mean it's clear that they had no concept of using the correct cutlery..... and I bet they can't even pick the correct wine to have with fish

I was in town the other day when this little girl started to have a tantrum and her Mum went absolutely ape sh1te on her screaming every swear word imaginable and when some woman asked her if it was necessary to swear at her little girl the Mum threataned to deck her.

I don't mind kiddies in pubs or restaurants as long as the parents have taught them that they aren't playgrounds and aren't to run around all over the place.
As far as I have seen, it's down to the parents' own lack of skills and discipine that children act like this - I mean, you can not seriously think you can stay down the pub for an all day session and expect a 4 year old to just sit there and do nothing - cruelty for everyone!!!

I can see it from both sides, if we manage to give our three the slip and go out for an evening, say for a meal at 8 onwards we really don't want to see kids in the restaurant, well behaved 12 plus perhaps but not 'snot monsters'.

I decided having kids is like ripping off a plaster, dont think about it and do it quickly. I am 37 and my eldest is 12, he is actually starting to be quite civilised and they give you many excuses to buy lots of ace toys, like the Nitro remote control car he is getting for Christmas.

A lot of the childless ones on here seem to be self centered and obsessed with 'stuff', just think where you are when you run out of stuff to buy and holidays to go on, when you have kids it resets your expectations of enjoyment and just going to the pictures of for a meal is a pleasure again.

It makes you less selfish, more resourceful and more resilient, I cant understand the childhaters, someone must have been bothered to produce you !

I'm with Ns04 and scoobychick, really no parenting instinct at all. It's not so much the screaming and whingeing that gets to me - more the fact that I just have no gut feeling for how to interact with kids. On the very few occasions when I've been left with friends' kids even for a couple of minutes, the experience has just left me feeling awkward and uncomfortable. Even at school I rarely had friends more than a year or two younger than me.

So, we have cats instead, and I love them to bits
