yeah, tbh i'm not sure which is the better turbo. although i do think the td05 16 is expected to make slightly less (10bhp) than the vf34

price wise your talking £25 difference so bugger all

My delta dyno graph with the VF35 conversionrun on about the hottest day of the year last year (cicra 35 degree abient temps) with non-optimal cooling i.e. the std MY99 interwarmer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...4/cc60eb74.jpg

As you can see, by about 2800 I have more torque than a std impreza has at its peak of 5.5k and more power by about 3800rpm. From these points it just keeps going to the redline. The graph drops off after 6k as the run was called off at that point.

Full torque/bhp available in first and second, puts the power down without issue. Believe me, not much short of a similarly tuned rice rocket or supercar has a chance against a properly launched scooby

It's a very responsive drive

Ns04

PS mine is a classic (i.e. significantly lighter), so prob equivalent in power to weight to a 350bhp new age

Ok cool so lets say there isnt much in the turbo's and either way I am going to hit 320bhp or more, and the same sort of torque!

What about the Ecutek/Other remap side of things?

Does the WRX (PPP) suffer from a dodgy map to begin with (other examples would be the Civic Type-R etc) which means that a remap even on a normal WRX with no turbo upgrade would make a lot of difference through the rev range, not neccesarily to peak?

it will need mapping, seem to be a few people claiming you don't need to but not doing so is a realy bad idea, the AFR will prob be screwed up.

mapping wise your existing ecu should cope of it will just need mapping for it

Oh no I know that...

I just mean, aside from more power - will it change the characteristics of the vehicle?

Its hard to describe!!

Sounds like what I want then!!

Super, guess I just need to start the ball rolling so I will start picking up cheap bits and try for a turbo maybe Jan/Feb.

On the front of not knowing what I am doing - I take it there are fitters who will take parts I buy and fit them?

Do I need to think about anything like... hoses, fitting kits, baffles etc?

£4000 still the budget...

Insurance, I pay £1300 now... I turn 25 in March next year which drops it a fair bit, plus erm, without being funny - Money isnt really a problem

I just saw this -
https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...-ihi-vf28.html

There is also a IHI VF30 - are these 'lesser' models of the VF34/5?

The above thread lists a possible 330bhp etc with mods... Anything worth looking at here?

Here ya go mate.

Haywood and Scott Sports Cat DP (wrapped)
Haywood and Scott Decat centre section
Haywood and Scott Original Scooby design backbox
Ported and wrapped OEM headers
Samco turbo kit hoses
Simota Panel filter
VF35 Turbo
Walbro 255lph fuel pump, 3 port boost solenoid
Ecutek Remap

On Santa list:

K&N induction
Hybrid FMIC
550cc injectors

Should be good for a comfortable and safer 330ish bhp and similar torque

PS To the poster. You WILL need a map, even if the car runs without DET on th bigger turbo, the boost characteristics will be well below par. Mine felt as flat as a pancake on the way to the remap. Totally transformed after!

VF34 only comes in the JDM STI V7 RA, normal V7 STI's had the VF30, basically the VF34 is a VF30 with roller bearings.

Vf28 is i slightly older turbo found on STI 5 and P1's, think the spool sligthly slower then the VF34/35

VF35 is a VF30 with a small exhaust housing so quicker spool, less top end.

Prob not mate, but the 440s would be pretty much maxed out at those levels and, as a rule, I like a bit of headroom and safety margin!

Thanks for posting that graph up, it's very interesting!

It seems our power at the wheels is quite a lot different (275 vs 236). I'm happy about that (not in a gloating way), as at least it eases my mind as to if the extra 11-1200 I spent on fmic and 20g over sti intercooler and vf34 was worth it

Hi Matt

If money isn't a problem then trade in the WRX and get an STi.

As you know, if you beef up one component, you will have to beef up another to compensate.

I'm thinking:

Gearbox
Suspension
Brakes etc etc

It's good fun uprating a WRX, I know I've done it. But I wish I had started with a STi as I would be a lot further up the power ladder.

If you were to just go for the STI, a similar year car would be able to produce your desired power level easily and give you a 6 speed box, brembo brakes, better suspension, stronger engine and all the 'mods' you are talking about are pretty much standard.

Got to agree with this, if money is no problem buy an sti, de-cat and re-map it to get around 330bhp.
Then when you get bored of 330bhp in about 6 months you can fit an MD321H and a few other supporting mods and go for 400bhp without having to worry about the engine and box taking the power.

I've considered the STi route... To be honest I dont really wanna change car, I like the day to day of a WRX and since mine is an SL I get to roll on heated leather :P

I wont ever want more than 350bhp I know that from experience, there is only so fast I can go and I will always be limited by skill!
