I love 'Bad', it's one of my favourite U2 tracks, I like the live version on the Rattle & Hum DVD and also the version on 'The Unforgettable Fire' which along with 'The Joshua Tree' are my favourite U2 albums.

I wish I'd seen them live in the Joshua Tree days, it's one of my biggest regrets

Only two, I was there on the second day/night and it was in July, I am sure. I had a Birmingham ticket too, but I gave it up to let a friend go..... (that was in August).

The best concert was Dublin in 1993... included 'Bad' with a little tribute to Michael Jackson and snippet of Candle in the Wind

Leeds Elland Road, July 4th 1987 supported by The Fall, The Mission and The Pretenders.

Bullet The Blue Sky that night was immense.

LOL at the sixth form band politics here.

Have been a fan since 1981 and like just about all their work including Zooropa Whle it is not their best album I have to say that Achtung Baby is pretty near the top of the tree in my opinion and I loved the band's own description of it - 'the sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree'.

'One' is a bloody masterpiece and probably the best track U2 have ever written and recorded.

The Live Aid version is significantly different from that on Wide Awake Simon, both in the standard of performance and the quality of the recording (with the latter being better in both respects).

IIRC there is no spoken intro on Wide Awake either

It's not unlikely that it is the Live Aid TV broadcast version, I've had that for several years. If it's the Radio 1 version though, I want a copy please Alcazar

Sounds like the same gig, I think I saw your black hat, do you remember me, I was wearing a Joshua Tree tour T shirt (that fell apart after about 3 washes)!

Yes but IMO the rest of the album is not far behind. I like it anyway and that is all that matters to me Then again I like Zooropa and How to dismantle and atomic bomb whereas it seems to be the norm to dislike those too. Never was much good at following a trend.

I havent really liked any U2 offering since Even Better Than the Real Thing (for a good while before and for years since: until Vertigo) and that owed more to Paul Oakenfold than Paul Hewson.....

This is defo the one I have.

So it's not on any CD then? The reason I ask is that I was after a better recording than MP3........

No Live Aid performances were ever officially released in any audio format. What's left of the archive footage, including the U2 set, is available in remastered form (Wembley only, the Philadelphia stuff is as broadcast*) on the DVD set released in 2005.

I would imagine it's possible to convert that into CD form with the right software
Whether it's legal is a whole other issue of course

*Seeing, and especially hearing, the difference in quality between the two concert recordings does actually make one rather proud of, and grateful for, the BBC, and the 'unique way in which it is funded'

The support for both days/nights was The Pogues and Lou Reed, along with other minor bands. Definately no Kim Wilde!!!
