Ahhhh, no, I'll have to stop you there Father Dougal

"Suggested" what you commented on? Oh come now, you can do better than inference, surely?

And where did I say speeders were doing nothing wrong? "Harming no-one" yes, but you're putting words in my mouth, sir!

This is why people with no licences still receive driving bans. Once officially banned and its on the PNC, it IS an arrestable offence, for which you can be detained. But after that they are still at the mercy of some pretty useless magistrates.
Agreed.

As crappy as it was mate, sadly driving without insurance is not an arrestable offence. The worst they would have done is cautioned him, and reported him for driving without insurance. Thats really where the police's powers on this end.

The best ice cream we have ever had is called Bourbon Vanille in a mid blue tub at Lidl's and it is not expensive either.

Sorry Snazy, should not have mentioned that

If the police catch and convict the **** at a later time and fine him, who get's the money? Not the victims I'd bet!

I was told recently that those who dwell in caravans below the law are not called travellers or pikeys. Apparently they are known as pikeyb*st*rds.

All one word pikeyb*st*rds. or so I'm told.

You can be arrested for absolutely any offence ranging from dropping litter to speeding, however there needs to be a necessity for an arrest.

If he deliberately misled the Police by presenting revoked insurance documents (deception? perverting the course of justice?) and there was a chance he would disappear into the ether again, then personally I would like to see him arrested. Also don't forget that there might be charges of dangerous driving, driving a car with defective brakes (or trying to pervert the course of justice again by lying about the brakes!), driving without insurance etc.

What are the rules on bail in the UK, is it like the US where hundreds or thousands of pounds need to be handed over as surety? "Travellers" often live in the black economy and are not short of readies, so a sufficiently steep surety could ensure they're made to have their day in court??
