Occasional moments of carelessness happen to all of us, to err is human and all that. Just really bad luck you got caught out on the same day your gearbox broke. Can only get better, Andy - chin up old chap.

well..... sh*t happens in threes for me!!!

although i felt an pillock with this one.

dropped the mrs off at work this morning. driving steadily home in my little beast, and she coughs a couple times... oh crap fuel gauge is low.

take a corner and thats it, kaput, she stalls. bugger

had to walk home which took 20 mins as i was proper desperate for a crap and a wee. rang up my local shell to see if they had any jerry cans. luckily they did. 35 minute walk to shell which is the nearest garage to me

another 25 mins walk back to the car with 5 litres of unleaded and and aching arm...

just got in now

what a friggin morning... im off to bed before i drown in the bath

the other stuff that happened was harsh dude, but you did make me chuckle with that one....walking from time to time can be a good thing. I know I should do it more bloody often!

'desperate for a crap and a wee'

In situations like this, I really wish the Police would use discretion. Yes he went through a red light, but did he need to be issued with 3 points. OK 3 points themselves aren't that bad, but get another 3 for something silly and they start to add up.
If no one had to jump out of the way, no other car had to swerve or brake, then a warning would have done.
Seems your not allowed to make any little mistake anymore without getting 3 points and a fine.

Although from personal experience, I've been stopped for speeding 3 times and given a written 6 month warning for the first one, and given a talking to on the other 2 occasions. All 3 times the Police thankfully used discretion as it was late at night on dry roads and although speeding, yes, not being dangerous while doing it.

Exactly the same happened to me in the center of cardiff about 3 months after passing my test.

The female copper was really arsey with me asking if i knew why I was stopped. I said yes as due to my inexperience i drove through a red filter thinking it was green. (i know what you might be thinking). The copper was directly behind me at the lights and i knew this so hardly did it on purpose. I had no sympathy when i said i was due to start a job in the center on the following monday and was simply doing a dry run to ensure I knew where i was going.

Instead of a fixed penalty i was sumonsed. A few weeks later a copy of the statement I made came through the post on which she had lied. She said "I asked the defendant if he knew why I stopped to which he replied no". This was bollox I told her at the time i knew what I had done.

Anyway I was fined £60 plus £30 costs with 3 points.

My only retort was I could pay immediately and get the F88k out of court.

in the little fiat i got earlier to cart me about, taking me mam to her works do.

get a police van up behind me approaching a roundabout, so i pull over. it does too. ok, i thought, i set off again.

then the blues come on. "oh no" is my first thought.

so i pulled into the next turning with mumsy starting to blubber, and me thinking "what have i done".
asked out of the car into the police van and the policeman starts asking (quite politely) the usual stuff.
tax, m.o.t., insurance etc. all sorted, even though i have nothing on me.

then he told me what id done. apparantly id driven striaght through a red light. i couldnt believe myself. the consequences of something like this could have been fatal, and i was very shocked and immediatly full of remorse.

so a little chat about road safety insued, and i again apologised. being a newish driver he kinda understood, but was still forced to dish out the dredded £60 and three points.

this is what upset me, my clean license gone. im really really gutted, and if i make any other silly mistake before march, thats it, licence gone as ive been driving less than two years.

credit to both policeman and woman (who calmed my mother down), they were very fair with me, and have given me the usual 7 day producer and ticket to pay in 28 days. the fine is nothing, i will pay that, but the points upset me. not them for dishing them out to me, its their job and i fully understand. but im so dissapointed in myself.

not been a good day for me as of yet.

thought id share my positive and negative experience with the law.

not gonna do my insurance any favours nect december...
I`ve been driving, "Performance Cars" now for 22 years and still have`nt got any points.

It`s not because I drive slow its bacause I drive with care, going quick where I think its safe to drive quick.

Now pay more attention in future you silly boy.

You could have killed somebody, don`t you know??????.

People who just sail straight through Red Lights just are not paying attention and deserve to be more harshly delt with than people who break the speed limit.

Really?

So a momentary lapse of concentration is worse than a deliberate decision to exceed the posted speed limit?

Sir, I think you may be spouting sh1te

****NEWS UPDATE****

"scoobynet shocker as dci sticks up for c_o_b"

to re-iterate, it was a genuine lapse of concentration, not a deliberate ploy to evade the police in a 54bhp 1108cc hamster wheel

Maybe it should be thrown out to the audience this one.

A lapse in concentration through a red light & BANG you may plough straight into another Car/Bike, maybe causing death.

You deliberately decide to break the speed limit, where you feel its safe to do so *Pay Attention To This Bit Please* and you may be unlucky and find yourself being zapped by some hand help Lazer trap.

Nonsense. We ALL - me, you, and everyone on here, has all at some point in their driving careers been guilty of a momentary lapse in concentration... usually it's just a case of "that was bloody stupid of me, must concentrate harder". I regard myself as a competent driver, I do a hell of a lot of miles and have never had an accident (been hit from behind but that was unavoidable). However, there have been occasions when I've done something stupid - last year driving in Israel I temporarily forgot I was in a Hyundai Getz rental car not my scoob. I pulled out to overtake an oil tanker in the middle of the Negev Desert, on a very long, very straight road, with another truck about a quarter of a mile away coming towards me. Plenty of time. But I was going uphill. And in a one litre Hyundai Getz... not my Scoob. F**k s**t f**k s**t... saw my life flashing before me as the obstinate tosser in the oil tanker refused to hit his brakes. Hammered mine and pulled in behind him with the airhorns of the oncoming truck blaring at me, just in time.

Upshot is, however good you think you are we are all human beings and make mistakes. So lay off CoB.. the guy's been through the mill a bit lately.

Phew, that's a relief to know that NOBODY has ever crashed a car while speeding before.... as it's always safe to do so

Pay attention to this bit LMoL >>>

Aye I know how you feel. About 6 months later i thought i got flashed by a camera. I waited for the fine plus letter telling me to hand in my licence but it never came. It was a harrowing few weeks i can tell you.
