Pete, the Rule of Thirds. Google it. Because of the position of the flashing pixel that's one very good reason why it would annoy the heck out of me.

Watch any TV programme and you'll see the Rule of Thirds at work, particularly evident in talking heads shows, eg news, where the subject's face is usually in the top left or right-hand third intersection; usually the right (because of the way we read and flick through magazines etc). That's why magazine/newspaper advertisers pay more for right-hand pages. Fact.

Check it out. And don't forget to sue for compensation, wasted time, costs etc.

Good luck

Richard.

I seem to remember all those weeks ago that the screen was perfect initially and then the green flashing pixel appeared.

Of course you should not have to put up with that and they should act in an honourable manner and repair it or replace the set.

What do you want to bet that the Curry's salesman is an member of this forum and just winding pete up

I also told you at the time to buy a Panny - you'll be glad to know that the Panny I bought at the same time is still going fine. When I'm sat at home watching my substandard plasma I'll be thinking of you squinting at your LG to try to ignore the dead pixel or when you're off down to Curry's for another rant.

I've got a Samsung 42" - had it about a year an half - ******* thing has been back to the shop about 5 times now - and now it's started with these red dots all over the place!! this one was from Martin dawes, and I'll never buy another samsung again! Panasonic all the way next time, heard nothing but good about them! At the end of the day, you get what you pay for really!!

AFAIK Panasonic uses panels from SamSung - I know Sony do!!

Like I keep saying, I went to buy the Panasonic Viera - saw the LG blowing it away in the PQ and the LG had to be it ................ it's still a better picture than any other TV I have seen on a Standard Input (if you ignore the faulty pixel).

You would have thought so, wouldn't you Les??

But no, we are dealing with the sharks of the Electrical Retail Industry here - Currys, Dixons and PCWorld are fine as long as nothing goes wrong ....... then you are in for one almighty fight to get justice!!

Do NOT buy from the Currys Group!!

You dont remember correctly then do you.

Panny, Samsung and Pioneer are one of the few companies who are making their own screens, most are rebranded old generations of the above. Think LG are making their own, as too are Sony now IIRC (might be wrong on that one though, the older stuff from Sony was rebranded but theyve eventually caught up I think)

I was told that Sony use Samsung panels, not by a pratt of a currys saleman either - by a man who should know (a local specialist TV centre).

Are you expecting us to believe that there are Panasonic factories, Pioneer factories, Sony factories, Samsung factories, LG factories .... amongst others?? Maybe 15 Chinese factories churning out panels??

Now, I struggle to see the demand and need for that many ...... I think there are maybe 2 factories - and Sony/Panasonic/LG/Samsung etc. can choose the graded panels. Maybe Grundig buy all the 'D' Graded panels and Pioneer the 'A' Graded panels?

A question for all:-

When Currys get the summons, what do you think they will do?

Who really makes your Plasma HDTV?

Very few Plasma TV manufacturers actually make their own plasma TV. Most use a system called rebadging. Basically they buy from a Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), claim to have a secret extra special feature then stick a new sticker on it and bill you thousands extra for the sticker. If you really want to pay thousands for a sticker please call our sales dept and we will sell you a sticker with our website logo for much less then the couple thousand you will pay Fujitsu or Runco
THE MAJOR PLASMA TELEVISION MANUFACTURERS

NEC - Nec is a OEM manufacturer and is now owned by Pioneer. Although owned by Pioneer they still operate under a separate label. NEC has commercial units and home units. They also supply screens to Marantz Runco and several other companies. NEC sold their plasma factory to Pioneer and now buys their panels from Pioneer and installs their own electronics.
Panasonic - Makes the complete units, Supplies Toshiba, JVC, Fujitsu and more
Pioneer Plasma - Pioneer owns NEC and has switched production to the NEC lines. The new 50 inch and the 42 inch units are all NEC glass. To tell if a 50 inch is Pioneer or NEC, check the resolution, If 1280 it is Pioneer , If 1365 it is NEC . 42 inch Pioneer Plasma TV is NEC . 43 inch Plasma TV is Pioneer Glass
Fujitsu Plasma - Only makes their own 42 inch in partnership with Hitachi . 50 and 61 inch Fujitsu Plasmas are Panasonic and NEC but the 42 inch are their own. Note Hitachi plasma screens are identical to Fujitsu and cost thousands less, 55 Inch Fujitsu is same as Hitachi,
Sony Plasma TV - Makes their own boards and chips but uses Fujitsu/ Hitachi plasma screen glass for 42 inch, 50 inch is NEC, 42inch EDTV is NEC
Hitachi - Owns 50% of plasma screen factory with Fujitsu. Makes own internal components. 42 Alis screens are Hitachi as is the New 55, 50 inch are Pioneer and 42 EDTV is a NEC screen
Philips - Uses Fujitsu/ Hitachi glass screen and most internal components as well. However, Philips makes its own bezel with built in speakers.
LG / Zenith - Make their own glass in Korea
Samsung - Makes its own components in Korea
THE SECONDARY MANUFACTURERS

RCA/ Thompson - Partners with NEC to OEM its product. Just a NEC with a new bezel.
JVC - 50 inch is Panasonic, 42 is NEC
Toshiba - OEM from Panasonic.
Sharp - OEM product through Pioneer for 50" and 42 though they may make some internal component changes.
Runco - OEM 50" from Pioneer and 42" from NEC,
Marantz - OEM plasma monitor from NEC. It is our understanding its just a sticker job
Studio Experience use a Samsung panel but custom electronics
Viewsonic - OEM 50" plasma screen from Pioneer ( old 502 ).
Sampo - 42v3 is old Fujitsu, 42v6 is Samsung Plasma,
Gateway: Units are rebranded Sampo
Norcent Units may be rebranded Sampo
Maxent is Sampo, There seems to be a rumor spreading around that maxents are actually Panasonic panels. These seems extremely unlikely as Panasonic cannot keep up with there own requirement. We suspect that maxents are actually LG glass with their own electronics.

They will stick it at the bottom of a very big complaints pile then possibly point you to your own post here:

It seems that your first post was removed and this post was edited by the moderators. Its nice to see that its not just people on SN that you upset...

Ric offers some spot on advice which is what will be provided in court.

But as Ric says, best of luck, you'll need it.

My 43" Pioneer is made by themselves, but I knew that already.
Still one of the best 1080i sets around and still glitch free.

Ditto. PX37 plasma - awesome.

I'd be gutted if I had a dead pixel - would be tempted to have an "Accident" which smashed the screen and claim on insurance.

Quick question Pete:

Why does this pixel:

look a hell of a lot bigger than this one:

Im assuming that its something to do with the jpg compression as the distance form the screen looks the same or does the "pixel" change size?

Simple - it was enhanced to help Mart360 see where it was .... if you read the post it was attached to, that was it's only purpose.

and your original post is hidden away from view

clik2complaints.co.uk

but thats by the by.

Also your response this morning "The ISO standard you quote applies to LCD panels and not Plasma panels and therefore cannot be used in Court to defend the actions of Currys." is incorrect.

ISO 13406-2 is an ISO-standard which is often trivialized as "defining the maximum number of defective pixels that may be present on a flat screen". Actually, it is defining the "Ergonomic requirements for work with visual displays based on flat panels -- Part 2: Ergonomic requirements for flat panel displays". This standard comprises terms & definitions, measurement methods and compliance routes. Among others, it also introduces classes of pixel defects.

Its defined as flat panels, which clearly covers plasmas. If this is the standard of research you're putting in to your court papers then you're in for a bit of a shock.

As you're describing it, you have a stuck pixel:

"A stuck pixel will usually be most visible against a black background, where it will appear red, green, blue, cyan magenta or yellow. Although continuously lit red, green, or blue pixels are the most common ones."

As you have 786'432 pixels and your screen is Class 2 they can get away with ~3.9 stuck pixels according to ISO 13406-02

I would suggest hooking your screen up to your PC and running this program to see if you can "fix" the stuck pixel.

UDPixel - udpix.free.fr

One of the reasons I bought a Plasma is that they did not suffer from pixel faults - or, so I was led to believe.

That ISO Standard refers at all points to a Liquid Crystal Display .... I can find no mention to Plasma at all ....................... it's the same as applying a Diesel Engine Standard to a Petrol Engine!!

The judge will only want info dealing with Plasma Products and I have LGE's Terms and Conditions on Plasma Products ..... no exclusion for faulty pixels.

Currys will have to invest £££££££'s fighting my claim, and - if it goes my way - imagine the claims they will get hit with from others who have been snubbed by them?

The fact is that the TV is of Unsatisfactory Quality ...... end of

I must admit, after forking out money for a tv and having an issue like that you would have thought that it would be a simple thing for them to replace or repair.

Best of luck Pete.

But as JJ says above, maybe try running the pixel fix program.

Genuine thanks for that program, if it worked I guess that the 'Tech Guys' would have run it from their Laptops??

I cannot get my PC near the TV anyway.

I have given Currys many weeks to sort out my problem - they have failed miserably .... they have not mentioned any LCD standard to me and cannot/will not provide the Manufacturers Spec.

Cheers Mate

Quite why Currys have allowed this issue to reach the doors of the Court beggars belief .......... the damage to their name costs them a huge amount.

I will do all I can to make customers shop elsewhere. The Sony Centre have told me that they would simply replace - no issue. John Lewis, again, replace - no issue. Local TV Specialist, replace or repair - no issue. These wish to have a returning customer .................... Currys clearly couldn't give a toss!
