L - I've had acupuncture for a whiplash injury.. had it in my neck, shoulder and head.. I am terrified of needles and must say you don't really feel it unless they hit a sensitive patch when they twiddle the needles...
The results? It didnt do anything for me so back to normal physio

It was my physio who did it too - ended up with deep tissue massage and ultrasound - but it still didnt crack the problem so my solicitor is in the process of making the 3rd party pay for more...
Hope you get sorted soon Snazy

Yikes that sounds very painful Lesley. I would go along with the RICE principle as that is an age old treatment for injuries of this sort. I would stick with the gels and spray to soothe the area, however if the pain becomes unbearable do consider cortisone injections. Diclofenac is a good drug as it is analgesic (pain killer) and over time exerts an anti-inflammatory effect which relieves pain greatly. Having said that it can cause gastrointestinal irritation (upset stomache/ heartburn). The most important remedy however is plenty of TLC.

Would rather acupuntcure than cortizone any day lol
Ginge, I have been having 5 mins of ultrasound on the shoulder per session. Really wanna try massage on my back though. Might give that a go at the local place.

I hate needles, but I had acupunture in desperation for my rhinitis a few years ago, and HONESTLY 84, it was fine!! In my face as well!
I've got to have a Hep B vaccination soon (I work part time as a Doc's Receptionist). I told the nurse she's going to have to chase me around the room to give it to me. THEN found out it's a 3 parter!!!!! Might go sick then!

Morning Nancy
Stop being a wuss, the needles are really, really fine and don't hurt, they're not like a hypodermic. The only time you might feel a small ***** is if they hit a nerve or if you **** a small man but then that's another subject...

Agree with accupunture and accupressure but get it checked out first.
I have torn my shoulder a few times from going ballistic at the gym and it's not a part of the body you want to ignore.
Don't use pain killers or deep heat etc, you make things worse in the long run by ignoring the damage. Get to a doctor or physio and get it looked at - if they offer some sort of therapy then take it.
Alternative methods like accupunture and accupressure work wonders, especially when you have a deep rooted tear or rotator cuff injury. Worst case scenario you would need an operation but if you get your should looked at and treated in time you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Doing simple excercises can help but I would get the physio's advice on what you should be doing - the excercises, believe it or not, relieve the pain (by strengthening the other surrounding muscles) and also allow your damaged muscle fibres to recover properly.
Good luck
