That's the best bit about them.
No overpowered girly steering. Which actually feels like its turning the wheels.
Proper clutch with some weight behind it.
Proper solid brake pedal
An engine that whips up almost instantly from idle to 6000rpm with the smallest of prods on the throttle.
Noise...some bad (wind, rattles), and plenty of the right sort (engine, exhaust, induction etc).
Sensation of speed
The actual feeling of it being a light car.
But it would be no good for the average scooby driver: It's too hard to drive and not fast enough

Evo 8 260 £12k for a decent one
When you want to mod it to 380 BHP:
Evo 9 fuel pump £30-40
Used exhaust £300
8MR cams £100-150 + install
10.5T turbine housing £150-200
Modify stock airbox (£free)
Remap (from £free-500)
When the brake pads and tyres wear out, replace for better items.
Consider 8MR or 9 suspension that someone will sell you cheap when they upgrade, although even as standard it makes the others listed look silly in terms of going around corners properly.
The others are not in anything like the same league in terms of anything to do with performance however you measure it.
None are in the same league as the 330 for being a rounded overall car.

You're right about the steering and brakes though.

Tell me about it, but it will need an engine that size to make it go !! I was also considering the 3L diesel, just to save on the mpg, then I thought.... It doesn't have a burble so sacked it off!!!

Kenny - I took it to the Ring and it was outstanding in terms or braking, handling and reliability.
But as good as a FWD car as it is, its not a patch on RWD.
I felt seriously inhibited on that track - you didn't feel right being pulled instead of pushed, isywim.
I couldnt get the corner speed I know I could in the S.
