Can anyone point me to the correct tool for opening the 210 litre drums from Jennychem?

Everything that I can find seems to be for opening large plastic drums

I used a screwdriver and a hammer! Just tap on the screwdriver gently and you should be able to spin the screw-in lid.

24mm spanner also works if you know what you're doing with it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think that I'll give them a try before paying £30 for the tool.

Can I just add about the shelf life of Methanol?

Although it is a very stable substance it is VERY susceptible to water and will degrade if left open to atmosphere.

Other than that, I am still using the 205ltr drum I bought over a year ago lol.

Depends how much gain you are looking for, on v power @ 1.8bar the car made 450ish on v power + 15% meth @ 2bar it made 523bhp.

There is a gain to be had using nf but it does not mix well with meth as someone on here carried out a test. Think you need to add the meth first fill with fuel then add nf for it to mix.

So do most people not bother with the NF when mixing meth, I would rather not use NF due to more expense and yet another bottle to carry etc

Yes most do not bother with NF, as you will see a siginificant power increase from the meth alone

I do get it from Jennychem and they only have one grade think its rated a 99% pure, I have a syvecs ecu so have one map for vpower and one for v power meth. Previously on the power fc I used to run meth all the time.

So when swapping from V power to meth mix do you drain the tank to maintain correct % mix ?

whats is your filling routine ?

thanks for your advise

I let the tank run down to almost empty, stick in 10 litres (20% mix) and top of with fuel and away I go

I guess a wide band sensor helps with small inconsistent mix

thanks again

The map should have some allowance either way, I use a ks-3 knock sensor so if the mix is out I just add some additional meth.

I have been using 20 Meths in my everyday car and to date have used around 500 Ltrs of Meths.

Fuel lines, pumps, regulators & injectors are all ok.
You often hear of corrosion issues however Methanol is known to corrode aluminum coatings more than anything else.

On a dyno with Dave R 490bhp was achieved on V-Power only. We then drained the tank and refilled with 20% and the highest bhp figure achieved was 564.4.

This is where most of us buy the Meths.
http://jennychem.com:/store/cat1

Top service / free pump when buying a 210 Ltr drum.
£ 150.00 for 210 Ltrs. When finished they collect the empty drum & leave you a full one.

Running constantly on Meths is not the problem many think it is.

I have bought four 25 Ltr jerry cans (non painted internally).
Measure 4 Ltrs using a jug & pour exactly 4 Ltrs into each jerry can. Then take to petrol Stn and fill with 16 Ltrs. This will provide you with the 20% mix required.

I always keep a 5 Ltr petrol can of Meths in boot.
That way you can pour in tank & fill with 20 Ltrs of V-Power or such like.

60 litre tank. I'd personally say run it completely dry, or empty it etc. Then put in your mix, so that you can always get the right mixture!

Never seen this thread before until now. D'oh.
I started using Meth since around March/April.

Prior to the Meth map as I was using NF before I simply did the following.
I let the tank run down. Put in 10litres of pure V-Power. Ran that down. Put in a further 10litres of pure V power ran that down. ALL DONE by running off boost.

I then put in 15ltrs of Pure V Power got the car to Simon who ran the car on the rollers to check everything. I then added 5ltrs of Meth and topped up a further 20ltrs of of V Power.

Just from adding 5ltrs of Meth I gained 7bhp but gained a further 16lbft.

Once I switched to Simtek and FMIC a month later I still kept the 5ltrs of Meth (think thats around 7% by my maths is ****e) and gained (ok helped by FMIC and Simtek) a further 41.5bhp and another 12lbft.

Meth over NF all day long. I was a long time user of NF but the cost of it is shocking. I was buying 30 bottles at a time coming to £320!!!

Storing and poring Meth can be tricky depending on where you choose to keep it. I always wear Gloves even when using a pump to put it in a petrol can as you need to extract the pump pipe after etc.
Make sure you have plenty of fresh air when doing it too.

If you do spill some of it DO NOT PUT anything on it as it will evaporate anyway.
If you have kids make sure they cannot get close to it and if you can store it in a cool/dry place even better.
