I agree with you devils_ad69, my speed did not suit the conditions.
What I was pointing out is this; even though I have been round the this same corner hundreds of times before (in worse conditions than this and at a higher speeds) - you never know what could happen.
I suspect a patch of ice/mud/deisel on the road, but again, this is not excuse.

POC,
I know what you mean. Trouble is suppose the road is a bit wet, your speed is OK and then you hit a patch of diesel? what happens then? Probably lose it big time.
How do you prevent such things?
Can't something be added to diesel so that it glows when it comes into contact with water/the road.
Just a thought!

It's true POC, without a doubt, I ride bikes too, what happens is that if you hit diesel imagine hitting the worst black ice known to man, what usually happens is major front/rear slide, lots of wheelspin, expensive crashing noises and usually painful bouncing down the road...
In a car it can spin you off the road just like that, its sooo greasy, have you never slipped over at a petrol station cos some muppet has overfilled their truck/van etc?? It's hideous

Ah that bend, just after the BMW dealer? I saw a honda civic 3ft off the ground and actually perched in a tree there on Boxing day! It is a nasty bend and wet or dry can catch many people out. It seems to camber the wrong way almost pulling the car to the outside then tightens. Aren't there kerbs there?

Yup, thats the one - just after the BMW dealers, is a bit of a nasty bend.
I ended up backed up the bank just after the bend.... thankfuly the car went backwards up the kerb, not sidewards..... would have rolled if I had hit at any other angle.....
Also glad I didn't have my new HKS on the car yesterday, it would have been wrecked! (put it on last night!)

I'm not trying to have a dig or preach, as I'm not a great driver, but perhaps it should be a warning to take it a bit easier? The feeling of utter lack of control is 'kin scary and left a mark on my mind 5 years ago when I was stupid in a fiesta (details not necessary, but I scared myself witless)
You say that you don't think your driving is at fault. Who else could be to blame? Not pointing fingers, but the one thing that I learnt from a mishap was that it was only my driving at fault, and it was other peoples attentiveness, particularly a lorry driver's, that means that I'm able to recall that moment.
When a scoob lets go, it really lets go. Thankfully, they seem pretty well built but I'd rather no-one tested that
Hope you can see where I'm coming from with this. it's difficult to make a point like this on a BBS without appearing to preach, but I'm really trying not to!

I did post somewhere up there that there is no-one else to blame and my speed did not suit the conditions....
It is hard to judge what 'may or may not' happen when driving.... you can never be 100% sure of what is on the road or what is about to fall on you from the sky!
I agree that I was VERY lucky to come away from this without a scratch or any damage to the car. I have driven the same bend in worse conditions and at a higher speed.... no problems before.
You are right, some people on the BBS take things totaly the wrong way. I on the other hand cannont critise my own driving on this occasion as I am sure that I minimised the brutality of the spin by semi-controlling the car when it was dancing. If I had been a little less experienced, my feet would have been off of the throttle and onto the brakes..... that would have been bad driving, and I prob wouldnt be here typing this now.....
Just remember, you can NEVER be sure of what is ahead of you.

POC - don't worry about it too much.
Most of us have lost cars.
I have somersaulted and rolled a VR6 at high speed. I was trapped in it upside down. I have also spun an M3 and written it off.
I have driven loads of high performance cars over the years and been on lots of courses and driven 1,000s of miles
Key points I would make are
- We are all human and we often lose cars when we least expect it.
- Speed and road surface are what usually makes it happen.
- If you drive a performance car you are going to drive it quick some of the time. Always check the road surface. Always check the road surface.
- Doing things on in controlled conditions = often slower speeds and more room. Not the same on the road - it can be very hard to catch it in time especialy when you are not expecting it.
- Once you have spun it is pot luck if you write your car of or die. I seen people spin their cars big time (RS Turbo in Horsham springs to mind) and end up the wrong way without a scratch on them on the car. When I span the M3 it demolished all sorts of sh*t, total write off. Just the way it goes.
- Now I only cane it down roads I know (what gear what bend, which bends tighten up, which have opposite camber etc)
Despite all this couldn't put my hand on my heart and say that I wouldn't lose my scooby tommorrow, what with the dreaded lift off stuff they are prone to.
Anyway POC sorry about the rant just my experience on these things
Still get the shudders when i think about the VR6. Near miss shakes u up a bit dont it. Get back in your scooby and go for it!
