IMO the Type 25 is the way to go. It has the looks, the power and is useable day to day

Yeah, but have you seen the price tag?

I'd love one but you are talking a lot of wedge for a scoob.

Default TYpe 25 owner info

Hello!

I have just sold my 2004 Type 25, and it is a truly impressive car - really quick, excellent handling, especially if based on a JDM import.

However, if you need a car for everyday use, I would hesitate to go for the T25 - in fact, after my own experience I would not actually hesitate, and wouldn't go for it!

My car was pretty unreliable (even if it did go like stink when it went!) - headgasket, (non-standard) turbo cooling hose, burnt exhaust valve, all in 40000 miles over two years. Also, the car consistently used a litre of oil every 250 miles, which was hard to manage to say the least!

On the plus side, hardly any turbo lag, loads of torque, brilliant handling (if a bit hard even with the dampers on soft) and an excellent noise.

For a trackday or weekend toy, I imagine the T25 would be perfect, but I don't think the reliability is up to daily use, and the warranty offered is not all it might appear to be at first sight, as I learned to my cost. I was hoping for a reliable, independent-build factory-level car, rather like an AMG or an Alpina, but the modifications are not, professionally, in that league..

20k a year in a Type 25 Thats some crazily expensive miles

I think the 2006 onwards, cosworth engined, cars are a slightly different prospect in terms of engineering levels. Just take a look at the spec list

Well all I can say is that after a couple of minor glitches when it was new (alternator failure, batteries in key ring giving up the ghost, both sorted quickly by Iain) mine has been totally reliable (touching wood now ).

I did have some oil seals done at the last service, but I use my car for my daily commute (but not at the rate of 20,000 miles per year) and it uses virtually no oil now the seals are done.

As a daily driver with such capabilities I really can't think what I could replace it with, and believe me I've tried! The suspension is just fine too - perhaps coming from a STi IV gave me an idea of what the ride would be like

Let's face it the RB320 is mean as **** and comes better equipped... if you can afford it then it's a no brainer... unless as I said you want an "extreme" Impreza.
I do get your point, the wife describes mine as baby blue or sometimes powder blue, but im in touch with the woman in me and like to stand out

Must say the A line spoiler looks much better than the std WRX spoiler for a Spec D.
Who sells them and do they extend over the holes for the std spoiler - I don't want to have the trouble of filling and spraying them.

Nick - Mine was standard on my car, but you can now get them from Subaru parts.

Unfortunately I think you would have to fill holes, but any dealership should be able to confirm

Agreed. I have the A-Line spoiler on my Spec D. It is £200 for the part unpainted from Subaru. You do need to fill the holes and paint the entire boot lid. It is literally just a lip spoiler.

Looks much better though IMHO.

A-line refers to the JDM version of the spec D that it is taken from: Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line, HDTV : Nihon Car .com

Default Type 25 owner

Paid 21K for my late Blob Eye 05 reg machine, have done around 1000 miles this year in it uses a little oil but hardly worth mensioning, for sheer pace it is scary and it aint that bad on fuel either, being driven normal road speeds 26 mpg not uncommon!

Being biase the ultimate Hawkeye would be.
1.spec-c type RA (cos I have one)
2.spec-c type RA-R (I would have one now If I haden't paid my morgage off instead)
3.spec-c type 25.(If I drop the lotto tonight).

As for comfort the type Ra is ok never been a passenger in it I just drive it.
