Everyone is entitled to an opinion but of the fatalities that i have heard about in the last two years, they have been on bikes and none of them were timing. Most of the fatalities are caused by car drivers and badly prepared or maintained cars dropping oil or coolant.

gutmann does know his way round but i am sure timing would contribute towards crashes as do lots of other factors-racing faster more experienced cars coolant leaks etc

Not wanting to start an arguement just interested in the comment. Fatalitys are a rarity, friend of friend comments are common. I wouldnt know if stop watches were running on the bike incidents I know of. I just know that avoiding them would have been pretty tricky no matter what.
However, timing is of course not a good idea. It invalidates your insurance for one thing and pushes you beyond your limits for another.
