Which ones fall into the G Band spoken about here?

Edit:- just checked:-

Its the 2.5 Duratec V6 Mondeo's ... which most wouldn't class as 'average family cars'

I didnt say they fall into the highest bracket, only that they fall into a fairly high one and the same as some Freelanders, ie 4x4s.

The point was made that family car drivers wont care about this supposed £1000 tax. But if they've got a Mondeo (family orientated car) then they will pay the same as 'hated' 4x4s. Therefore, this new system gets more people.

An F Band Car will pay much less than a G Band Car - hence they will not give a toss about the people who choose to drive cars in the G Band, was my point.

It doesn't make any sense. I pollute less than the average Fiesta driver, as only drive my car at the weekend and use public transport during the week... so how can I be billed as a 'polluter'? Nonsense money making scheme.

I agree (with post 24) I'm just saying that more cars than you realise fall into higher brackets, as the gov't moved the goalposts for which emissions fell into which bracket.

Wish i could afford a brand new Range Rover, then i could really wind these damn liberals up.

You miss the point I think?

If you drove a Micra at the weekends you would pollute a lot less, see?

It's what you pollute when you drive that matters, not what you pollute over a period of time .. thats just how it is.

Have you removed your CAT, for example?

As a guess, and I haven't checked, I would say 5% of all cars may fall into the G Band?

Thats 95% of car owners who don't give a toss what band G people pay.

There are calls for a Band H to be introduced.

I quote, "Even with band 'H' set at £500, owners of these expensive cars could afford the tax, so it's not the cost of the tax that's the deterrent.

Instead, cars in band 'H' would be worth thousands of pounds less at resale time than those in band G, and it's this drop in value that would make buyers of such cars think twice"

So, its the Re-sale value smack which will make people think twice - this coupled with the new WRX and STi shape may make the new cars a flop?!

Its a class thing more than anything. Like i said in an earlier post, this gov't dont like the 'types' of people who drive bigger cars. If anyone can afford to buy a so-called big, gas-guzzler, then they can afford the tax.

Read my posts more carefully .......... it is acknowledged that they can afford the Tax - it's the massive drop in residual value which will make these people desert the vehicles under discussion here.

These people 'tend' to be quite intelligent, wise and don't like throwing money away - so, residuals are of the utmost importance.

Not at all. It is about making those that pollute the environment pay more... so why not calculate what emissions are car creates and then multiply by mileage done. As opposed to just taxing everyone high because their cars produce high emissions. My point is that which ever way you look at it I pollute less than someone who uses a car 5 days a week. Why should I pay for their emissions?

Yes I have removed my cat as I decided since I am paying twice as much as other road users I should be entitled to create twice as many emissions whilst my car is in use.

They should scrap road tax and introduce toll roads IMHO. You always end up paying for other people in this country.

Never accept things just because someone says "that's the way things are". You'd never change anything with that attitude.

You have removed your CAT

In that case you should really be paying £1000 a year now - destroying the planet for those who follow in the vain attempt to go faster!

How would mileage be calculated? At MOT Time? Those who put CATs on for MOTs would simply wind the mileage back.

You are being rather niaive - but, it's Xmas ...... so, I'm chilled.

I'll not bother responding to your subjective opinions since it is xmas

The technology already exists to track a car and calculate where and when it goes... so toll roads and mileage charges are not far fetched.

Oh and I forgot to mention, you simply pay more per mile you do the higher your car's emissions are.

A sensible and fair alternative to the current antiquated road tax. I should stand for PM

Rubbish. If thats all people are bothered about, then they should buy a cheap banger in the fist place. My point is, if people have the money to throw about on cars and road tax, then why would they be bothered about losing a few grand when they come to sall it? It would be other like minded people who would buy the vehicle anyway and, again, they could afford the tax.....

A fair way to do it would be to scrap car tax altogether and shove fuel duty right up. Thats pay as you drive then without being tracked in some communist style control system.

I would make being a left wing lunatic troll an offence punishable by a bullet through the brain. The more fuel your car uses the more tax you pay simple.

Removing your CAT uses more fuel then? In addition to killing the planet for those who follow us? Interesting error of judgement in the pursuit of a BHP increase?

They reduce fuel economy as well as reducing emissions. Just another way to rape tax out of the taxpayer

Well, the world supply will dictate what we pay much more than a few pennies taken in Tax by the Government of the day to pay for Hospitals, Schools, The Elderly and the poor ................... but, they are just a distraction when we want to pollute the planet aren't they?

So let me get this straight, you are an active member of a subaru forum, you own a subaru as one of your cars and you have the ordasity to start spouting off about people killing the planet with emissions and trying to go faster when you drive an impreza and not a prius!

Whats that smell.........ah yes........hipocracy!

I can drive my Impreza gently, I can return 30mpg+, I rarely go over 3000RPM and I keep my cars for decades.

I'm as green as a performance car owner can be
