so why dont you chop in the scoob for a new polo that returns 76mpg, not worry about rpm and still keep it for decades.

the only difference between your owning the impreza and my suggestion above is that you would have a leg to stand on in an environmental debate with my suggestion

i agree with you to a certain extent,Scrap car tax and put it on petrol so those that use more pay more. But arent we one of the most tax countries in the world?

And as for the tree huggers-dont believe everything you hear on the news about the enviorment. If they were that worried about the planet why are they buildin nuclear war heads, cuttin down the rain forests or drivin around in their 4.2 jags instead of a push bike?
Kettle,Pot and Black comes to mind

The whole point of the higher tax on band g is twofold

1. dissuade the public from buying one
2. incentivise the car manufacturers to lower the emissions

Raising fuel duty will achieve neither of these.

In that case you should really be paying £1000 a year now - destroying the planet for those who follow in the vain attempt to go faster!

How would mileage be calculated? At MOT Time? Those who put CATs on for MOTs would simply wind the mileage back.

You are being rather niaive - but, it's Xmas ...... so, I'm chilled.
Now here's a classic example of someone who's been sucked in by Govn't prapaganda. *sigh*

The tax isn't about trying to save the planet, or are you really that dumb?

You are quite right, it is optional, until it becomes compulsory for cars that are not Govn't approved. We've been forced to feel guilty for owning and driving cars, and the Govn'ts solution to placate that guilt is for people to pay tax. Agreed, taxing does help to change behaviour, to a point (Look at drinking and smoking), but it's not a solution to "save the planet for those that come". How will taxes stop our Sun from completely burning Earth to a cinder?

The logical conclusion from Govn't policy, for those of us that are ordinary taxpayers, is very bleak indeed. Humans will kill each other off long before any "human induced damaging climate change" happens.

I think the prices we pay are disgraceful, we pay to tax our cars, 80% to fuel them, 17.5% tax to get them new, how much more I ask myself??? alot more until we the public refuse to pay it, then they wont be able to raise costs like they do!
