The thing that pisses me off the most is that they took the search part away from us who do not pay to be a member. i know you can use google etc but that search was a huge help and could have helped in this case, and yes it does seem to be all the same questions.again a search could prevent this.

Got to agree Mac. The reasoning behind removing it wasn't that convincing for me.
Back to the lambda, if your mpg has taken a dive then its very likely its buggered.
And now you see what I mean, I posted a decent and long reply - did you say thanks? Not much incentive for me to continue

Second the statement that I should keep quiet if I know nowt about a fault...
Mine ran for two years with a CEL due to sports cat fitted, ran a little rich but I knew what the problem was ! Finally got it re-mapped. Don't know a CEL fault code from my RS !
Good luck,
DunxC
P.S. My fuel consumption has just gone evil, mine must be on it's way too !

I now go to NASIOC for tech advice and post tech questions on here for 'contrast'
At least NASIOC lets you use a proper search function.

The Americans seem to be big into the Jap car modifications these days. I also run a Honda and by far the best forums, knowledge and advice comes from over the pond. Even got to the stage of getting parts shipped from there as they carry more stock, are more helpful and its way cheaper even after shipping.

bank 1 sensor 1 is the first sensor in the exhaust system which isn't an 02 sensor it's an air/fuel ratio sensor you can check the voltage on the select moniter and see if it's working ok as well so your man should have done this.

An air/fuel ratio sensor is an O2 sensor.

Although it's different to a typical narrowband sensor, it's nevertheless an oxygen sensor. Just the same as the slightly different NTK and Bosch wideband units, they are oxygen sensors. The sensing of O2 (or HCs depending on the AFR benig measured) is how the sensor determines the air/fuel ratio.

I try very hard to answer in sections I feel I know a bit about. Some sections I know very little about so I steer clear. I read the original problem here, and had no answer of value.
Key to this site is to use it properly to your advantage.
Choose the right section, and add all the info you can that you feel is relavent.
This helps solve the prob, but encourages 'experts' to respond well.
There ARE some absolute experts on Snet, you need to find them and work to allow them to find/help you.
As to your problem? Best advice on here is to take it back to your tuner if you can.(IMHO)
Graham.

The front lambda sensor is an o2 sensor, every lambda sensor to date is an oxygen based sensor, an o2 sensor, just because it doesn't switch between 0 and 1 volt doesn't mean it isn't an oxygen sensor. FYI the subaru proprietry o2 sensor used for AFR measurement uses a 0-5volts output, if you care to look at the subaru technical manual for newage and onwards cars, you can see how it works, measuring the oxygen content.

I tried putting together a diplomatic reply back but it failed miserably after 10 mins, so I kept this short.
Perhaps its this kind of insulting and ignorant reply that stops people trying to help others out on SN.
Scoobyboy - which Subaru dealership do you work at?
Its name will be going in my little black book.

Well that answers that one!
Shadower wondered why he wasn't getting any help? -Paul from Zen posted an accurate comment on the workings of O2 sensors, and the next thing you know, some t*** on here is putting his mapping abilities to the sword!
I've often sat here viewing tech questions, thinking to myself that even though I know a possible solution, it just isn't worth the hassle of posting it.
I tend to stick to PM's these days..

I can certainly see Alan's point!
Many times I see a problem which I know the answer to as I've lived it personally, but you can almost feel it will lead to a tiring run of commentry so I don't bother responding.
One exception is Suspension and such a situation has never developed in the 4 years I've contributed on here.
I can live with a difference of opinion and the willingness to consider each other's views, and knowing when to let it rest (agree to dis-agree etc).
This is called a sensible discussion with mutual respect.
To doubt Paul/Zen's tech understanding in this way is a bit out of order, he deserves far more respect than that.
Right, off to another section of Snet.

got to agree with 911 graham again. how you can doubt zen performance is beyond me. ive been in the motor trade for 36 years and to put a persons ability to the sword that has a reputation as good as theirs. is beyond me (scoobyboy your well out of order)
paul you can map my car anytime you like.

This thread as a good lesson in why people don't help. Most are put off posting because someone is bound to jump on the thread and either correct your spelling/grammer, call you a noob or question the credibility of other people.
I tend to stick to other sites now as I am finding SN is getting a little out of control and is no longer the type of forum I thought it would be. Posts that should really be locked up in the other forums end up in general or technical forums and you end up with a long thread of insults.
But then it's a forum and this is to be expected. Best thing to do is post a question, come back a week later and see if anyone has answered. Filter through all the insults and you should have a comprehensible solution somewhere in there.
There are helpful people on here, 911/Graham has answered a lot of my questions but then I did ask for his advice because I trusted his knowledge on chassis dynamics - end of the day you can't beat experience.
People are allowed a difference of opinion whether good or bad but branding someone with a label is a bit out of order. Zen can map my car anytime (actually in a couple of months I hope!).

Well, the above posts are all good, but. I can see when someone just want's to have a poke, and I can take it, no harm done. I don't think any sensible person would have read this thread, looked at what had been written and decided that I couldn't map a car.
chill dudes.
