Dont worry about the official Subaru dealership engine price. Go find a good Scooby specialist and get something nicer put in for the same money or less. I'd recommend the Cosworth fettled engine - thats what I'll be going for next

Might also be worth getting some gauges - might stop this happening again if u spot the signs. I'm still surprised that Subaru sell our cars without oil pressure and boost gauges as a minimum.
The car does have the boost gauge, voltage gauage and temp gauage and none of them were misbehaving.........

Subaru have me bringing my motor in every 3000 miles and i thought that was too often but never questioned it. Some say 6000 miles and others have said 12000 miles. If it comes down to it and Subaru tell me that I was 2500 miles over when the suggested I bring it in (usually after 3000 instead of 5500) where do I stand? Is it possible that they decide to not repair/replace the engine because of this small glitch in the otherwise perfect maintenance?

no i think its because they are genuinely good people davey babey.

i rang david up for a some honest advice on a gearbox biuld, no obligations etc. fair enough decided to take her to somehwere closer to home, david was perfectly fine with that. thats the difference with some companies, david is an enthusiast, and genuinely wanted to try help me and not just take a big wedge off me.

my experience anyways. sure others will follow.
