It isnt the hardware for me Lee, its the media. The money that I have spent on players is nothing compared to what I have spent on the hundreds of DVDs that I own. Even though Im tempted, Im not going to invest in a new platform standard until Im confident that it is stable is likely to last: The cost of replacing favourite films is massive without the worry that youll be left high and dry in future if you committed to the wrong format...

All the HD players will upconvert all your old SD disc's . Just replace your favourite films with the Blu-ray / HD version .

Suppose we look at it differently. I buy a mixture of HD-DVD's and Blu-Ray, most new releases are out on one or the other or both. I want to watch HD movies and listen to HD sound now instead of buying DVD's which will be outdated soon.

Which ever wins I'll still have the HD movies and be able to watch them so haven't wasted any money. I certainly will not junk my player and discs just because the other format wins through.

I still have my Laserdisc player and a heap of films.

Pioneer Laserdisc.

I still play older formats.
