I looked round fr ages for a 40" LCD Tv before settling for a Sony Bravia KDL40W2000 from Digital Direct | Widescreen TV, DVD, Hi-Fi, Camcorders, Home Cinema, HD Ready for £950.
By far and away the best LCD picture out there and 5 stars and best LCD TV from Which!

Here's another nice review of that one:
Panasonic TH42PZ70 Review
That would be my pick of the moment and just have to wait and see how bonus time goes
I was looking at 700 but someone on here pointed at the 70 and it's fantastic value, especially at that Curry's price.
Another thing I've been doing in the shops is getting them to put on standard digital tv because that's what a good percentage of viewing will be in. PS3 in 1080 - lovely, bluray spiderman - wow... but if the bloke off the news looks like he's made from lego then that would get on my teats very quickly.
Yes you can get upscaling recorders, amps and such like but to just watch a bit of Flog It, it's got to display SD reasonably well as well.

Value for money at the moment is the Panasonic PZs 42" (I've got this and am really happy with it )or 50".
My understanding is LCDs are ideal for Gaming whereas Plasmas for Films, Tele etc.
WR 1mposter is correct that after a certain size Plasma is the way to view...although LCD's are catching up with improving technology. The top Plasmas i.e. Pioneer, Panasonic are a lot more environmentally friendly (unlike the old versions) and are designed to last as long as the average life of an LCD.

These are/were my short list:
Sammy M87 or F87 but seem to have build issues
Sony KDL40V3000
Sony KDL40W3000
The 2000's are the older model and suffer from clouding
TH42PZ70B is looking like the winner for me, that or the W3000

Sky Hd is a waste of time i have cancelled my subscription as there is a lot less broadcast in HD then sky would let you believe.
None of the international cricket
None of the World Superbikes
None of the Moto GP
Sport wise it's o.k for premiership football and rugby that's all
Movies are the normal sky rubbish programme "upscaled"

I bought a Toshiba 1080p, 37 inch, well pleased with it, went in the shop with £1500 and could have gone higher but it fitted in its corner and the picture was as good as anything, in face, going to buy a 32 for the other living room and move the Samsung 26 inch (also very good) into our bedroom.
I think its hard to buy a bad one nowadays, even the cheapo never heard of brands ones seem acceptable.
I expect they will keep coming down in price over the next year and then start to find a realistic price level as the market gets saturated.

This is the quote.
"Even more worryingly for plasma makers, the technology's traditional size advantage over LCDs is quickly being eroded. The same report revealed that within the 40 to 44-inch TV segment, market share for LCD TVs increased to 58% versus 41% for plasmas (the rest were rear-projection TVs). 50-inch and over is the only class where we can safely say that plasmas still dominate."

More a case of which technology is cheaper to make, thus marketed more aggressively and thus adopted by the general public in greater numbers than which is the better technology. I despair at most ordinary people. Every day millions eat in McD's, drive around in Corsa's, drink lager etc etc. Betamax was always better quality than VHS, but the public were sold the lesser technology on the back of marketing in the shape of rental tapes. We always get suckered, and the better option is always there, but we never take it

This makes interesting reading.

Average PC: 78 watts
DirecTV HR20 DVR: 33 watts
Wii: 19 watts
Slingbox: 9 watts
