I am kind of thinking RWD with this, I love the Golf (Had six of them) and stuff of its ilk but its mainly left field, RWD stuff I fancy.

Keep thinking of a Cossie engined Volvo 240, Saloon or Estate, what a sleeper and probably not that difficult to do.

Why go Cossie when the 2.3 Volvo Turbo motor can be made into a screamer with a 16 valve haed and big turbo?

No reason, it just a pipe dream after all, more likely to end up with a Fiat 500 as a 3rd car, I suppose that performance bit for the Volvo engine are more plentiful in Sweden than here where the YB is more common, either would be pretty effective.

I've had another thought:

HB and HC series Vauxhall Viva, if you can find one. I include the Magums and Firenzas in this.

Cheap as chips, big engine bay that'll fit anything you like in it. Just a slight rust issue to overcome...

Rev, good call,

My uncle had a tuned 2300 Magnum for years, I drove it a few times, what a lovely car, had enough grunt to mix it with 325's, plenty of torque for proper smoking getaways, my cousin inherited it for a bit and we ended up in a field when he booted it going round a corner, nobody hurt and only minor damage.

Also, I think the Magnum/Firenza is one of the best looking cars, ever.

I suppose there are a lot of old Vauxhalls that would fit the bill, VX/Ventora or the Cresta which looks like a proper Muscle Car, The Royale/Monza as well, early Carltons and Senators, keep an open mind and wait for one being found that hasnt been sued since 1985.

I used to love the Monza. Shame the engine bay isn't wide enough to fit a V8 in (IIRC).

When Did you last see a Mk1 Fiesta XR2 ??

Or Even one of these (My Old'en) Fiesta 1.3 Supersport

It was a toe in the water excercise by Ford to see what public reaction would be to a Sporty Fiesta...
It must of worked as the XR2 then came along.

My Grandad used to have Viva company cars, every three years he'd get a new car delivered and they'd sweep up and collect the pile of rust that was the old one at the same time

Thanks but it could be a lot better, if you look over in ireland some of the Mk2 are fetching £35k+ in Rally spec.

A freind of mine has finished his Mk2 group 4 last year, thats worth about £40k I'm not jealous in the least

I've done my time in the left hand chair of a few Mk2s over the years Huxley

Nothing quite beats watching trees rushing towards you at 70+mph through those big side windows

When you compare that to the prices properly specced Mk1s are fetching these days Jacko, £40k is a bargain

Default throwing my hand in

id put money on chevette hsr, or lotus sunbeam ti
citroen visa gti.

i had a viva, and have found memories it was my dads car then i got it,
i had cibie oscars on the front and a radio in it i got off dodgy dave at work.

it was a tank and was mint at first but after a while the tin worm got at it.

one thing i do remember though was that you could not lift the bonnet on it.

rs3.1 mk1 capri.?

i would settle on a mk1 golf gti though, mainly cos i never had one,
id get a dark green one (was it oak green?) and do the brakes, do nothing else to it at all. they are class

You try and build a good spec group 4 car and see how much you have spent in the end

I've had a couple, still got the engine from one (1.6, big valve ported head, daft cam, shiny lightened crank and overbored to 1.8) sitting on an engine stand in my garage, waiting for the right project

Mk2s were Oak Green BTW, Mk1s were Lhasa green

I have just purchased this well two months ago, needed a little bit of work doing on it, brakes & suspension mainly, but you can find them at reasonable prices if you look around.

It was a purchased based on having loved them back in the 80's in my teens, but not being in a position to own one. I have owned several Subarus over the past few years, and simply got bored with how good they actually are on the road and track so I iwanted something rear wheel drive with character (not every ones veiw) I am sure.
