That wasnt reasoned debate was it? I think that you got off lightly there, becasue that infraction will only last for two days. Had it been given my a more 'senior' member then itd have been good for four weeks!

Im not trying to defend the trade, I despise it, in fact. I was arguing that despite this dock auction crap flooding the market, not all imported cars are of a similar standard. Japanese auction grade cars accurately and honestly and cars of a good grade make worthwhile purchases. Some of the cars sold at dockside auctions may even be alright..... My point is that the Japanese market is not corrupt and full of poor/dangerous cars and that many imported cars (brought in my importers who select good quality cars at auction and import them themselves) are of a quality at least equal to those imported by the concessionaire.

So was my 'generalisation' not a valid point?

No doubt there are many youngsters with stars in their eyes about to fall into a very expensive trap?

I spent two years warning about the cars found in dock auctions but it fell on deaf ears. Id say that you have a valid point, but it seems to **** you off so much that you berate all imported cars.

must admit I'd not noticed you're warnings, just the way these things seem to be driven all the same.

OK so if you'll admit theres more than a few shockers out there?

..then I'll confess to there being a few gooduns

nevertheless it's the dockyard imports that have utterly ruined the whole Impreza owning experience for me.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I, personally, wouldnt buy an older imported car from them.

Me and my mates travelled the guts of a 600 mile round trip to this 'trade centre' just to be disappointed by damaged/badly repaired cars.
Almost every Impreza/RX7/GTiR had an aftermarket drivers seat, guages all over the dash, in gloveboxes and ashtrays, holes in the dashboards, suede steering wheels, roll cages, even some cars still had the semi-slicks on them!!!

Torque of Keighley is just the same, only on a smaller scale. It was mostly Evo's and Imprezas they had when I was there about a year and a half ago

In my opinion, most of the older cars, say from £3000 to £10000, have been used as track cars or severely raced.

I'm still glad I went though, cause if I didnt, I'd always be wondering.......

Slightly on topic.

I normally arrange for the car I'm buying to have an inspection. However, with Imprezas being the fairly specialised cars that they are, is your everyday RAC/AA inspector going to be able to identify and diagnose problems (especially if the car has been modified) or are they just going to pick up the more 'general' items that most punters with a modicum of mechanical knowledge could pick up themselves??

It's a tough market for Impreza's, classics are a minefield, I realised that when I was hunting for mine.

Would I buy another classic? Not sure, it's very difficult to know what you are buying unless you have some experience of owning older car's and can cope with the shock of finding out something is wrong - like I said places like KTC and any other importer for that matter is not for a novice and you really need to take someone with you who know their way around a car.

My next purchase will most likely be either an Spec C Type RA or the RA-R if I can find one and get it into the country. I bought my classic for the intention of hitting the track with it so it will get a fair bit of money thrown at it but who knows, I might get bored as I usually do and end up going for something else... quite fancy a newage Forester STi seeing as I will be a dad again in the summer!

Both of the S204s are From what I could see they were very nice indeed. That applied to most of his indoor stock, some very nice motors indeed.

I went to the Trade centre last week with a mate to view a wrx. Phoned them up the day before to check on the condition and they said it was in good condition apart from the usual small stone chips etc.
OMG!!! A few small chips...
1. Practically all of the left side of the car had a large scrape or dent.
2. The side skirts were hanging off
3. The Jun splitter was hanging off too ( They seem to put Jun splitters to all there classic scoobys)
4. No boot carpet
5. No rubber around the boot to stop water coming in
6. There was a tub of filler in the boot ( now if that doesnt shout out warning signs , I dont know what will)
7. Rear diff was cream crackered. When we asked about it we were told that it was because it was an aftermarket diff!!!
8. Rear bumper was melted around the exhaust.

Needles to say we didnt buy the shed

All these Horror stories about imports..

I personally plan to get either a Hawk Eye Sti or Spec C in April .

I have spoken to and had PCM recommended, any others i should consider speaking too?

Or would i be better going to Japan for a holiday and trying my luck out there?

Many Thanks

Vash

I drove 120 miles to have a look at 3 nissan 300zx (s)that they had, I had an appointment and they still wouldnt let me have a go of any of them, the cars on close inspection were rot boxes with poorly done mods, for example ,turbo timers hanging on a bunch of wires on the floor, holes in dashboards, loose spoilers, bad paintjobs, and the salesman was an absolute c##t !!!
