Sorry, must have got the tours mixed up? Yes I remember hearing that the video for Scream (not their best tune) was going to be filmed at the academy but was too scared to bunk off school!

Second best was about a year after featuring T La Rock, Just Ice and Joyce Sims ( You are my all and all!)

First (and best) concert I went to was UK Fresh which was organised by some guy called something Khan who was the guy that released the Street Sound albums. Loads of bands inc Afrika Bam, Mantronix, Roxanne.

The guy's name was Morgan Khan. He was the owner of Street Sounds record label in the 80s. I wonder what happend to him because I think SS went bust.

I wasn't allowed to UK Fresh 86 as I was about 14 but Mike Allen was hero in his day. It was the only way to reliably hear this sort of music as the pirates were being cut off every 5 minutes and his show was in pre-Westwood days when Electro and Hip Hop were real underground. Khan was a clever guy and effectively invented the dance complilation. I've loads of the SS Electro series, and who remembers the 'Upfront' compliations as well. I fondly remember my trips to MiPrice (Jazzy M) in Croydon to get my fix of vinyl. I actually met Fingers Inc/Mr Fingers there in about 88/89. Jazzy M became a cult here for me and I wondered into the Acid scene in 88 after leaving school, mainly through his musical influences...
Back on topic though...listening to some old PE stuff on an Ipod recently I told my wife how some of their revival stuff of late 1990's was very spooky in how they predicted 9/11 and the forthcoming changing of the new world order etc etc.
Another fond memory back in about 87 was when I worked as a saturday 'freezer geezer' at Bejam in Beckenham. Me and another lad who was also mad on PE were sent to Lewisham to work for a week or two during the school holiday. The guys there, who were mainly black, looked upon us 2 white kids from a supposedly posher area with obvious disgust...until we whacked on our 'Bring the Noise' tape which was our anthem which we just looped time and time again. I can honestly say, I've never ever since seen a melting of anomosity so quickly between a group of people. We all went on to be great friends for many years later and a number of the Lewisham lads reappeared a lot at some of the warehouse events we frequented a few years later. Good old days they were...

I went with a mate and towards the end I went for a pee or something and ended up blagging my way back stage with a pass I found on the floor. Anyway, the finale was with all the acts on stage and I managed to sneak on stage (they had let some other people from backstage on aswell)
When my mate who was still in the audience saw me standing next to Afrika Bam with my zulu symbol up in the air his face was a picture!

Now you are talking. I love alnaafiysh, I cant belive anybody has not sampled that in modern day music (correct me if I am wrong), same as "Egyptian lover" which still makes me think of nike jackets, big roll of lino, outside of Argos in Kings Lynn windmilling like a crazy man!

Ya mean "Born into this" ? I heard mixed reviews - Have you got it?
Cheers for the Homage on taste - clearly you also have impeccable taste.
Don't suppose you frequented the Hacienda / Annabelles / Legends / The Blood Club in the 80's did you ????

I agree with peeps here who say that we were naive listening to fear of a black planet with its racist undertones, But the music was great plus they were barely out of childhood themselves back then.
Chuck D seems to have mellowed with age.
In my time I have listened to alot of reggae which in some respects can be even more racist, but again its great music.
Dub is better tho
