How about we have a few responsible people to watch over the forum and ban anyone who is being deliberately offensive or causing trouble.
We could call them Moderators

system is a joke......banning doesnt work (i am banned on one user account so just post on another....whats that achive?)
if people USED the ignore function the issue would go away - if the moron that banned my previous account just ignored me they would not be reading this...because it would be ignored!

They'd probably go back to kiddy fiddling or abusing their pets

Why do people infract others? surely are we not all supposed to be adults? I kinda figure that throughout life you will come across people who's views you don't share and opinions you don't agree with - its just the same on here. Thats just part of life and living - whats the point in infracting someone other than just to annoy - which quite frankly - it a bit childish!

Good Idea - Maybe if you infract someone - you should AUTOMATICALLY have "Ignore User" set for a month !

the more clever trolls (or so they think) just use various programs that mask your Ip address and then register with different email address's. Al this has been covered in detail by simon many times.
they know who are the serial trollers, they just choose to ignore them and advise us to as well.

Makes it harder !!
Everytime you get banned you get an IP ban.. then you proxy it and come back and if you're a troll again you get banned !!
It takes two seconds to ban someone and about 5 minutes to find a proxy, setup an email address and register and confirm !

If posters did not have opinions there'd be no SN!
Yes, some are pretty extreme [I've been banned under three different names for taking certain views but I just pop back up with another an hour later] but we still have free speech in this country despite what politicians and Muslims want, so let people say what they like.
If you don't like reading it, click to another page.
The sooner infractions get scrapped, the better.

And, of course, what someone may think is trolling is the poster's reasoned argument which the Webmaster fails to understand himself but as he is a young twerp, I'll forgive him unless he removes this post ... again! In which case he's complete f&cking w&nker ... only teasing!

The infraction system has pros and cons, like anything. However, the main problem I have with it, is that many threads which have the potential to either be a good debate or a bit of a laugh, ultimately end up ruined or vaped because of them.
If a thread is getting too much for someone (either because of banter 'going too far', or because views differ), I really can't understand why the offened person doesn't just ignore it, or if they feel strongly, post their feelings rather than press a button.
If there are out and out insults being thrown about, then I can sort of understand why someone may use the infraction option, but if I was truely offended by something, I would rather voice my feelings, to try and let that person who's offended me know what I had a problem with. A person may feel they've only cracked a joke, but if someone comes along with a fair comment back as to why that's upset them, they may tow the line a bit. If all the 'offender' has is an infraction, in fairness how are they meant to know exactly how they have offended?

I was not going to add my bit, but well, I have too ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Infractions are not the way to go. What I find extremely amusing, someone else may find offensive. Does that mean the poster should be punished for it. NO. If it offends you move on and ignore it. Dead easy
