I'm guessing none whatsoever.

All regrading will do is create more criminals it won't stop anyone doing it. It doesn't send out any sort of message because nobody will be listening or paying the slightest bit of attention.

Harm reduction is the way to go not increasing harm by giving people criminal records.
None at all, if you do it for long enough you forget that it's illegal.

As you say it won't change the crims or the people doing it but I think down grading it has sent out the wrong message to kids. Long term use can affect some people....the more people who smoke it the higher that % will be.

Seen quite a few people suffer from drug induced psychosis through cannabis leading onto major mental illness.

On the other hand I've also seen the positives such as MS sufferers.

A lot of my friends used to use it regularly but then they grew up and moved on but every now again the odd joint appears.

When you were a kid did the class B status of the drug have an effect on your decision to start smoking it? I'm guessing not.

Kids don't give a fork about whether it's illegal or not and some people might argue that they are better off smoking weed than crack although I'd argue they'd be better off enjoying something healthy it would be naieve to think they have any interest in that.

I guess my point is that the 'message' that's being sent out doesn't make any difference. Nobody is listening.

Accept that and the next logical step is to reduce harm. Encouraging people to not mix it with tobacco would be a good idea. Likewise creation of a 'coffeeshop' system like the Netherlands.

Guess your right, no one cares if it's legal or not. I never did but I was 20 when I started and not 12 or 13 like they are now.

Everyone i know my age would rather have three or four pints in a pub then back to a mates for a few smokes then a take away!

Its better than getting smashed on alcohol and causing mayhem like some people do!!

Why is it illegal, alcohol is much worse and readily available to anyone!

And to all the people who say it brings on psycosis, BOLLOCKS! the people that happens to already have it in their genes, weed brings it out in a small percentage of people, alcohol brings it out in a much larger percentage of people every year!!
Why is holland not the mental illness capital of europe then?

And to all the idiots who crow its far stronger than 20 years ago, YES it is but that means we just smoke a bit less for the same effect, think about it!

I will have a few pints and a smoke tonight, as will all of my friends!!!

LEGALISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is Holland not the mental capital of the world? If you've ever been to a coffee shop have a listen to is actually in there. Chances are they'll not be Dutch.

I think that opinion is based on having been in some very poor Amsterdam tourist coffeshops.

You'll find the Dutch do patronise them but it tends to be younger people and I hate to say this but I'm afraid it's true, 'losers'.

Yup, I have to agree, I have been to Amsterdam over 15 times in the last 8 years or so and you are quite right the Dutch are never seen or at least rarely seen in the Coffeeshops ! Its mainly full of tourists/studenty types.

My view is that the Dutch are probably bored of weed, whereas all the tourists cant believe they can skin up and smoke a fat on.

The rules have recently changed in the Dam, places that sell alcohol cant sell weed, so places like Hill Street Blues just sell weed now - no beer !.

Davy boy i take your point, but i have friends there and the weed they sell in the coffee shops is the stuff that the conoisuers wont buy! thats why most dutch smoke at home!

And believe me the weed they get is way better in taste, smell and high than any coffee shop and ive been to quite a few over the years!

My friends parents friends all smoke and they are about 55! Its the way in holland!

There's so much utter garbage being talked here about what goes on in Netherland it's unbelievable.

Take it from me-

Amsterdam doesn't represent the whole of the Netherlands- particularly the small part of Amsterdam most of you will have visited.

Some coffee shops sell the best product available.

Smoking marijuana in most of the Netherlands isn't massively popular and you hardly ever see people doing it.

Some people are just not suppose to smoke weed, but they don't know it until they suffer with mental heath issues. By then it may to late to do anything for them. My sister tried for years to help her son but they had to ask him to leave in the end as he became violent toward her and her husband.

I never knew anything about the weed until last year I just thought he was a "nutter"

Thats what can happen when you live on a dodgy council estate in Bradford, my sister loves her kids to death but found it hard moving from were we live in the countryside to Bradford when she got married and had kids. Bradford is not the place to bring up kids IMO. Hence why I live were I do.

Suprise, suprise. Try somewhere like Maastricht- Belgians, French and Germans fill them.
Bit like the petrol stations selling tax free petrol on the border of Luxembourg.

Go somewhere 'real' and get the true picture.

Just saying what I see. Hopefully I'll not have to go back in a hurry. My point is, that not everyone in Holland walks around stoned as GC8WRX would like to believe.

A pal of mine did it for a few years and ended up in the funny-farm....
paranoid-schizo, hearing GOD talking to him !

I managed to avoid him/it as I'm a weak compulsive type, so stuck with falling down mountains on a bike for a "rush".

P.S. All of you who say it didn't affect you just can't tell, the rest of us can LOL

NL are not a great topic for comparison if you don't know the whole picture.

I don't have the data in front of me, but from memory there are now 700ish coffeeshops in the whole country.

Each municipality has the option of choosing if it will allow coffeeshops or not. There are 500-odd municipalities, of which 80% don't allow coffeeshops. I don't know the population breakdowns of those which do (obviously Dam is bigger than others).

NL are certainly NOT the most prolific weed smokers in Europe. That goes more to the Italians, French, Spanish, Czechs, Danish and Brits, depending on which particular age range you're looking at.

Definitely, we had some freinds that liked a Spliff, I have tried it a few times, its okay but these two would drink a litre of Merrydown Cider each and then have a Spliff and end up monged, not the best thing for scintilating conversation.

Though I do know a relative who has it everyday, it doesnt seem to affect him, but his are so strong one waft and I need a lie down.

Though for the most part, my objection is that people who dont smoke it call it 'Wacky Backy' and do that silly face which makes me cringe, I will take a stoner over a right on than every time.

The other thing is you develop tendencies, a lad I know would go progressively more Jamaican and there is always the chance you will buy a snake, smoke roll ups, wear Megadeth t'shirts, Silver Skull Jewellery and live in Wales.

Happy to say that i've kicked the filthy habbit and I now don't spend most of the day of the bog!

Back on topic, it's difficult to feel guilty about having a spliff when you pay your own way in life and are not 'spongeing' off the government. This is the usual depiction of the 'common' weed user which just shows how naive some people have become.

I used to do it years ago. I smoked it from around 17 till i was about 22.
I just got sick off it although my fondest memories are after doing a bong & just bursting into a fit of the giggles for about 20 minutes. Immense stuff.
I ended up just knackered all the time & want to go to sleep at the weekends & ended up on the harder gear to get me going

Lightweight. I could go through a 150g pack in 15 mins and I didn't need any Wacky Backy to help me do that.
